Apple Watch screen is dark

In the last couple of weeks, the screen on my Apple Watch (1st gen) has gone darker, overall. I can still see it if I am indoors and I hold it near. But outdoors and in light it is really dark!! I tried rebooting, re-pairing, changing the brightness, enlarging the text and making it bold but nothing helps. The support centre says it will cost $199 to repair it as they think it's a "hardware" issue. Has anyone else had this and, if so, what did you do???

Hi,

I have a first generation Apple Watch and not experiencing anything like you are describing.

On your iPhone open the Watch app then tap Brightness & Text Size. Move the Brightness slider all the way to the right.

If that doesn't help, just in case it's not a hardware issue, make sure your Apple Watch and iPhone are up to date.
