Delete the account, then add it back. After filling in the 1st screen, hold down the option/alt key while clicking Continue. Fill in the necessary information, then click continue until all screens are filled in.
OK I meant the incoming and outgoing server settings which have been changed from yahoo mail to xtra mail and our email has been migrated, I can access it fine from iOs and also from webmail but when I try to re-add the account (or indeed update the settings once the account has been added) something changes them back to the old yahoo addresses. Not only that, but when I first add the account something defaults these things in from yahoo settings.
Thanks for that - its hard to see how safe mode will help given the same thing happens on my wife's laptop logged in as me but not for her. It seems its something about my mac account or internet accounts. Maybe a file which influences mac mail but is present wherever I log in .
Boot into Safe Mode, Mac OS X: Starting up in Safe Mode, and try to change the settings there. If you're able reboot normally and check the settings again to see if they stuck.
Thank you very much, I did that and its now working. Much appreciated, Happy Easter to you
