Change Signal Strength Bars To Numbers on iPhone 7+

I've just recently got my hands on an iPhone 7+ and I like it for the most part.

I usually like looking at the signal strength in numbers instead of the signal bars.

When I bring up the field test menu however, I can't seem to get the status bar to show the expected numbers. instead, it seems to be stuck on the bars. I've even tried holding the power button until it shows the shut down screen and then holding the home button till the field test menu disappears, but no luck.

I've called Apple Support and they basically tell me it's a feature introduced by the carrier (in this case T-Mobile) and therefore not Apple's issue. When I call T-Mobile, It's completely opposite.

Software version is 10.3.1; does any one have any suggestions? What am I doing wrong?

I've been all over the web trying to find an answer. It seems that this is called a "hack" and therefore is not supported by Apple or any of the carriers.

It would be nice to have since I feel it is a useful tool to have at certain times.

Maybe in a future update they can open that up or at least let developers have access to that section so a third party app can be developed. `
