Hey,

I recently re-installed my macOS so now I am currently running Yosemite. However, when I click the upgrade button to upgrade to Sierra, it asks me to log in with my Apple ID. When I click login, I get the following error:

MZFinance.BadLogin.MacAppStore_message

I am able to login with my Apple ID anywhere else but not here in the App Store.

Any ideas on how to fix this issue?

MacBook Air, OS X Yosemite (10.10.5), null

Guys...

1. First of all Ensure you have completed your e-mail verification for apple ID,other wise your 2 way authentication option would be in "disabled" state .

then change/ turn it off with following steps:

  • Open any web browser on any computer and go to appleid.apple.com
  • Log in to the Apple ID you want to disable two factor authentication for, you may need to use two factor auth to gain access to the account
  • Go to the “Security” section of account settings and choose “Edit”
  • Locate the “Two-Factor Authentication” section where it says the feature is ON, and click the link to “Turn Off Two-Factor Authentication”
  • User uploaded file

    1. Create new security questions to assign to the Apple ID, these are used in place of two-factor auth codes
    2. When finished disabling two-factor auth you can log out of the Apple ID management website

Once two-factor authentication is disabled, you can log in to Apple ID from anywhere, whether on the web, iOS, iPhone, iPad, Mac, anywhere, with only a password again, you won’t need to double authenticate with a trusted device code.

Whether or not to use two-factor authentication is largely a matter of personal preference, there is no right or wrong answer here. Remember, you can always turn on two-factor auth for Apple ID again if you decide to use the service again at a later date. Either way, be sure to use a strong password.

    >put in your password followed by the 6 digits that appear on another device in the same field. don't hit enter, just put the number in right after the password.<

This works. I must say however that suggestions to disable two-factor authentication, however functional, are frustrating. Rather than 'work around' this brutal flaw, I'd like to see it fixed. Buying software is certainly the most critical reason to use 2-FA, for both my security and Apple's bottom line, so the fact that this doesn't work at Apple's primary point of sale online is completely absurd.

2FA came along after Yosemite, so any OS Yosemite or earlier, you have to generate a code from another device and enter the 6 digit code directly after the password before submitting. This isn't a glitch, the older OSs just don't have the facility to ask for the 2FA digits, so the engineers designed it so that it's submitted along with the password. That way 2FA codes can be entered on older OSs.

For starters, it's not necessary to disable two factor to get by this, simply use the trusted device you enabled two factor to generate a code, and tack it on to the end of the password. This is not a hack or workaround, two factor was designed so the code can be tacked onto the end of a password so two factor codes could be entered on software that doesn't support two factor authentication.

Secondly, all Apple IDs created moving forward are going to be two factor authentication, you will not have the option to disable two factor authentication. So turning it off isn't going to be an option for new apple ids moving forward.

To generate a code from an iOS device Go to settings>tap on your name>password and security (iOS 10.3.1), or Settings>iCloud>tap on your name>password and security for iOS older than 10.3.1.
