icloud mail on windows 10 mail app

I use windows 10 mail app, and my icloud mail recently will no longer work with this app. It keeps asking me for my password, and wants me to fix the issue all the time. I am sure of the password, and wonder what could be wrong.

I suspect windows 10 does not know how to deal with 2 factor identification.

See Two-factor authentication for Apple ID - Apple Support. Near the bottom is a second on validating with software that isn't compatible with two-factor authentication. If you're getting a code sent to a device then in the other piece of software try signing in again but append the code to your password. E.g. <password><code>.

What turingtest2 means is

1. Go to your apple I.D. & sign in.

2. Go to APP-SPECIFIC PASSWORDS in Security.

3. Then click "Generate Password" to create a password specific for your Windows mail account.

4. Then replace your password on the mail account with the password that has been created by Apple I.D.

Yes, go to: appleid.apple.com. Manage your Apple account. You'll them be asked to enter a 6 digit code, the code will pop up, then enter it. Under "security", there's an line that says: App- specific passwords. Hit the highlighted "generate password". Then enter a label (any word will work). You'll be given a password. Enter that in the password line where you're ring you log in. Use tgat instead of your Apple password. Be sure and include the "-" when entering. Hope that helps. It sounds hard, butt is not.
