Apple Pay Authorization

So somebody help me please understand this: Scenario: I was at Office Depot yesterday and was paying at the counter with my business debit card but I had issues with the new pin I was issued with so I just went ahead and process it as a credit and everything went smoothly.Fast forward couple of hours later, I was checking my personal bank account and saw that whole thing was charged on it even though I didn't even use the card! So I called my bank and my business bank and asked why the transaction happen when i only had one card out and I clearly didn't put my personal card out..turns out Apple Pay processed it without ME PULLING OUT MY PHONE OUT OF MY POCKET NOR SWIPING OR HOVERING IT OVER THE DEVICE and without my authorization or finger print. So somebody please tell me, is this all legal and how is this possible??? I mean I was clearly using a different card and I wasn't even alerted that my apple pay was being used. should I be worried that my cards in my apple pay can be used without my permission and anybody with an apple pay friendly device can scanned it without me knowing it??

P.S. My phone is an iPhone 7 and updated to the latest version.

iPhone 7, iOS 10.3.1

That is very unusual, and I've never seen that before. Any transaction that I have done has required the device to be very close in proximity of the receiving device. If you go to Settings>Touch ID & Passcode, do you have Use Touch ID for Apple Pay turned on? If you go to Settings>Wallet & Apple Pay>Allow Access When Locked, do you have that turned on?

I'm not aware of any diagnostic for the Apple Pay, but you may want to Contact Apple Support, or make an appointment at the Genius Bar of the nearest Apple Store to have it examined.

There is a support document about Apple Pay, About Apple Pay - Apple Support, and then this one on security and privacy. See if there are any answers for you there. Apple Pay security and privacy overview - Apple Support

Hi,

Yes i do i have this settings on.. however even if the allow access when locked wouldn't it still require the touch id in order for it to go through? I was very near the device because I was paying but my phone was in my pocket and I never took it out while I was paying. I called support and they told me this is a first and their engineers are looking into it. Thank you for replying.

Okay, let me ask you this. Did you get a notification in Apple Pay that it had been used? Just curious, because I know that I get an almost immediate notification about the use of Apple Pay. I know that I've been at my local Staples, and when I go to check out, I've looked on my phone on the Staples app for any reward points, and then used my regular credit card, not my Apple Pay and it has not charged the Apple Pay. Otherwise, I don't use the Apple Pay very often, mostly when I'm at the Apple Store, so I couldn't compare against anything else other than what I indicated above. I hope you hear something soon, and you are able to let the rest of us know what happens.
