I'm trying to assign the pitch bend function to an expression pedal but all the expression pedal deos is change the volume, even when I assigned pitch bend to the expression pedal in the editing and mapping section. any help would be greatly appreciated.

Try this. I just verified it. It should work for you. Keep the pedal assigned to expression in layout mode. In edit mode, select the pedal. In the screen control inspector>mappings>send to all>keyboard destinations(Axiom 49 is used here)>pitch bend.
In layout, select the pedal, then in screen control inspector> hardware input, click on number and select pitch bend from the menu.
I tried that, but when I touched the foot pedal to know that's what I wanted assigned, the number would automatically go back to 11 for expression, even when i made it pitch bend.
