Lock symbol in the Mac Desktop area

Hello All

I have a mid 2012 MacBook pro on latest version of Mac OS. For the last few days, i have seen a "Lock symbol" on the desktop. It is totally new and appears in random location and is intermittent. When i scroll over the "lock symbol", a small pop up appears over it reading "secure connection". i have not clicked on it or anything.

I do not have a good sense about it. It feels that my Mac is hacked.

please advise on how to go ahead.

that usually means the website you are visiting has a secured connection that can protect what you do and also protect transactions. you typically see this on sights such as apple amazon eBay etc. hope this helps

Just wondering, new, random location on desktop (not in menu bar where it belongs) and intermittent applies to a secured Internet connection?

yeah, this appears on random location on the desktop area, not in the menu bar.

intermittent meaning that I see it some times and not always. I am not so tech savvy but I think I have a secured internet connection. It is not on any public wifi networks. it is always on home network.

Yep, I understand.

I was hoping to get a reply back from TheKraphtsman to explain why "It is totally new and appears in random location and is intermittent." That is not explained by "the website you are visiting has a secured connection" at all; your Mac's issue doesn't fit that explanation at all.
