PDF File Crashes Macbook Pro
I have a professionally created PDF file with information about a product that I need to read. Every time I try to open the file the first thing that happens is: 1. A wide black bar appears left to right across the middle of the screen. 2. Much of the remainder of the screen turns into a patchwork quilt of black and white boxes. 3. The entire computer becomes frozen. The clock stops running and it is not possible to access Force Quit using the control key shortcut.
The same thing happens if I attempt to open this file using Preview or if I try to open it using Safari. The behavior is identical.
However, if I try to open the same file with a second Mac (an iMac) it opens fine.
I have Scanned the file for viruses and get no hits. Since it works on the iMac it suggests either and OS issue or a Hardware issue. The Console has absolutely no information about the event. The Console log simply stops a short time before the crash and has not one iota of information about what went wrong.
This has happened from time to time with other files, so it is not specific to this file. The file of interest is about 50 MB in size, so it is not huge. The other files were of similar size, none of them over 100 MB. The machine is not doing other work when I attempt to open the file.
Any ideas? Thanks!
