Connecting a DVD player to my MacBook Air

Can I connect a DVD player with an HDMI output into my MaBook Air to play movies, perhaps with a cable with HDMI on one end and a Lightning or USB on the other end?

Your MacBook Air has an HDMI OUTPUT port. It does not accept HDMI input.

You can connect a USB or thunderbolt DVD/CD drive to your Mac if you like.

Hi,

I don't believe such a DVD player exists. I wonder if you could do what you want using a DVD player connected to your MBA, then using Air Play to send it to an Apple TV, which has an HDMI output to the TV? Just a thought.
