I have a red circle with the number 1 on the system preferences icon on the dock
On the dock, System icon. there is a red circle with a ( 1) on it. What does this mean?

I have the same issue and does another friend. What is going on? Why are there no updates and still the red 1 is on the desktop??
it means you have one item that has an update of some kind.
If you see it on your message icon it's a new message, on facetime it a new facetime, on system it could be a system update
go to >App Store
if there is a (1) by the App Store you can log into the App Store and see what the update is.
I have a red-circled-one on my System Preferences icon in the Dock as well. It has been there since I upgraded to Sierra. When I open the system preferences none of the icons have a # on them. I keep checking the App Store and have upgraded everything. If a red-circled-1 is not part of the icon itself, where else would one look?
Thanks, I was connected to this new two-factor ID. Took a while to find it.
