Unable to download certain documents from iCloud Drive

Hi all,

I have been using iCloud drive to store documents to travel between computers. I have recently tried to access several of these on my 2012 MBA with Sierra, but am unable. It shows a hollow cloud icon and cannot be opened. The file appears when I browse through iCloud.com

Anyone know how I can turn off this "store in the cloud until you need it" feature, so I can keep the full contents of my iCloud drive on my Mac similar to the way in which Dropbox does?

Please see attached file for appearance. When I try to open any of the files with the cloud nothing happens. Double click and keyboard shortcuts do not work. The rest of the files you can see, without the cloud icon, are working.

It is possible that you have "Optimized Storage" activated. This will store some files only in icloud to save space in your mac - though they should still be usable...

Since you say you want everything to still reside in your mac, you need to turn Optimize Storage off.

In System Preferences->iCloud->iCloud Drive, click the Options... button, and UNcheck "Optimize Mac Storage":

As per this article : macOS Sierra: View file, folder, and disk information

Downloaded: The Downloaded status icon tells you that the folder or file is up to date between your Mac and iCloud and you can view or edit it immediately, with or without an Internet connection.

What exactly happens when you try to open?

Also, can you post a screenshot of that icon?
