cannot upload photos to iCloud shared album

Hello,

I cannot upload photos into an iCloud shared album that I created in Photos. Other people can upload to the album, but I cannot. iCloud preferences are set to Photo Stream (on) and Photo Sharing (on). This is frustrating as I do not think anything has changed on my MBP, but the progress bar just sits there, even though I am only trying to upload 3 photos as a trial (~2.5MB apiece). Also, I cannot upload photos to another shared album that I received an invite to, and that site is able to have photos uploaded by other people, but not me.

It seems like it must be a setting on my laptop or inside iCloud or Photos, and I have run through everything I know how to check.

Thank you for your suggestions as we are on vacation and I would like to share photos with friends & family!

But my question was "Can you see the shared albums in Photos on your Mac?" Are the albums there on your Mac, but empty, or do they not appear at all?

You already tried to restart your Mac to restart the upload processes, right?

The usual reasons for not being able to upload are either that you uploaded too many photos and reached an upload limit, then you simply have to wait, or you are trying to upload photos in an unsupported format.

See the upload limits here: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT202299

If you uploaded too many photos per hour or per day, you simply have to wait.

Are your photos in one of these formats? JPEG, RAW, PNG, GIF, TIFF? (https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT202786)

Can you edit the photos you are trying to share or export them form Photos with

Where did you check?

  • System Preferences > iCloud > Photos (then the Advanced button > iCloud Photo Sharing)?
  • Photos > Preferences > iCloud

Is your Wi-Fi connection stable and your Mac connected to Power?

Yes to those questions, and the wifi seems stable with reasonable throughput. Since we started this trip, we have not been able to upload photos from the Mac. Not sure what else to try. We did log in-and-out of iCloud to make sure it wasn't something odd there. Frustrating.

It's not a limit issue as we are trying only a couple at a time. We did this successfully several time before. We have not made any system changes, but we just cannot get the photos uploaded.

Thanks for taking the time to noodle on this. We would like to share our photos with the folks back home and the ones on our phones are a fraction of the ones we've taken with our cameras.

Are you in a foreign country right now? Then it might be a problem with domain name servers that are blocking some internet connection. Also, the Hotel Wi-Fi may not be using a save protocol.

Did you log out of iCloud generally or did you disable the "System Preferences > iCloud > Photos (then the Advanced button > iCloud Photo Sharing)" selectively? If you did not try that, disable iCloud Photo Sharing separately.
