Problem with iMovie HD 6.5.1.

There are no longer any Photos in the media window pane, as there used to be in the previous iMovie (HD 6.4 which I can no longer use since upgrading to Sierra). Please tell me, how can I retrieve them?

Hi,

I found out about iMovie HD 6.5.1 for Sierra somewhere in the Apple community or on Google, I can't remember and I've actually been using it to edit a video. Apart from the Images 6.5.1 does work for all other movie editing (all the Titles, Transitions, Music files, Video FX fix and Audio FX etc.).

I kept the original iMovie HD 6.0.4 installation disc and installed it into the iMac. This is what I got:-

There was nothing in the App Store relating to the original iMovie HD 6.

Hi Rich839,

I've just discovered where I got HD 6.5.1. It is a 'hacked' version as shown here:-

User uploaded file User uploaded file

iMovie HD 6.0.4 just will NOT run on Sierra, as you see it has Apple's nasty 'No Entry' symbol across it.

I've got round the Photos not appearing by placing the ones I want into the 'Movies' side bar then adding them in.

Hi,

With a workaround, users on this forum have been able to get iMovie 6.03 and 6.0.4 to work on Yosemite and El Capitan. This despite the "No Entry" symbol. I haven't seen any comment on Sierra yet.

Read this workaround from Ziatron's post, and see if it works to allow iMovie6 to run on Sierra. I would very much appreciate it if you would post back with your results, because I have been holding off upgrading to Sierra until someone could verify that iM6 worked on it. Here's the workaround:

Hi Rich839,

I used the Ziatron link but I think it's not what you want. Here are the stages I followed:-

User uploaded file This appeared in Applications. I right clicked/ctrl clicked (because my Mac mouse has no right click facility) on it and the following window appeared.

User uploaded file I ignored the 'exec' file and double clicked on the small iMovie icon within the red banner above,

User uploaded file Then the Terminal window appeared.

Along with the Terminal window the LATEST style version of iMovie appeared. For some reason I can't show you the screenshot of it because I keep getting this message:-User uploaded file

I tried several times but each time this red banner appeared.

Either way, it didn't retrieve the old style HD 6 version of iMovie.

Before moving on to Sierra I backed up and kept the whole version of my Mountain Lion on an external hard drive. I'm still considering going back to it because 'Sierra' is too much of a problem! I DON'T LIKE IT AT ALL!

Best wishes,

Hi, Klaus1,

I was trying to drag the iPhoto app into the iM6 media well, but it wouldn't accept it. So I put some photos into a folder in the finder and titled it iPhoto pics. I was able to drag that folder into iM6 and when I clicked on the folder icon the photos inside became accessible from within the iM6 app, although they were just icons with no thumbnails. When I clicked on the icon of a photo, the photo appeared in the viewer screen. Also, I was able to drag it into the project timeline and work with it just like any other photo.

Hope I expressed it clearly.

DeJa Vu?

Re: Will iMovie HD6 and iDVD still work with the latest OS Sierra?

I think I can see what went wrong with your attempt to get iMovie 6.0.4 to work with Sierra back in November 2016.

This is the screen shot you posted back then of the alterations you made to info.plist following instructions posted by Rich.

User uploaded file

The alteration 6.0.4 to 6.0.8 is OK but somehow 6.0.4 was altered to 6.0.7 ten lines above.

This was most likely the reason it did not work.

If 6.0.7 had remained at 6.0.4 then the NO ENTRY sign would have gone , and it would have worked

in Sierra.

Hi,

I'm interested in your post about using iMovie 6.0.4. so, because I didn't already have it on my iMac, I tried to get the iMovie HD 6.0.4. application using my installation disc but I can't find it anywhere on the iMac!

User uploaded file

If, as shown, it installed OK, where is it?

I first looked in 'Applications' but only the latest iMovie is there and I looked in all the other obvious places, no luck.

I thought I'd try importing it directly from my old (Snow Leopard) iMac but I then got these, desktop image of disk...

When I installed it on those previous occasions the 'no entry' image was always there, so I removed them.

I now believe Sierra is just 'refusing' to allow it anywhere near on my iMac!

You're right about HD 6.5.1 looking the same and it does seem to work OK.

You would probably get the same issue with no photos in media window pane with 6.0.3 or 6.0.4 or 6.5.1

Sierra probably can't see "iPhoto" and iMovie HD6 can't see "Photos app"

So if your photos are in either app it probably won'y work.

Have you tried to copy some photos to desktop and then drag into iMovie 6 timeline?

Tiresome, but it may work.

Yes 6.5.1 appeared a month or so ago in iDVD forum (Old Toad right at the end Re: iDVD problems in Sierra

Hi, thesurreyfriends,

Well, I'll be darned!

I somehow missed Old Toad's iM6.5.1 pointer. Thanks for re-posting that.

I guess it would be safe to download it. I still am curious as to whether the iM6.0.3 or 6.0.4 workaround that Ziatron mentioned will work for Sierra. I am thinking probably not, or the 6.5.1 version wouldn't have materialized.

Best as always,

I still would appreciate if you would try the 6.0.3/6.0.4 workaround in Ziatron's post that I sent, and let us know if

it works.

I think he was hoping you would try it out on 6.0.3/6.0.4

I think we both assumed you had 6.0.4 on your Mac from your screen shot at 12.18 Hrs above.

Even with the NO ENTRY sign the procedure can still open it in El Capitan.

Rich was curious to know if the same applied to Sierra

Problem with iMovie HD 6.5.1.
