how to create a desktop folder?

I just bought a new iMac with OS Sierra. I'll be ****** if I can find how to get a new desktop folder into which I can place screen dumps on articles I want to file. Sorry for being so dumb, but my old iMac was a simple click and hit "folder" to create one.

iMac, Mac OS X (10.6.8), Youtube sounds for example

Create a folder

  1. Click the desktop if you want to create the folder on the desktop; otherwise, open a Finder window and navigate to where you want to create the folder.
  2. Choose File > New Folder, or press Shift-Command-N. ...
  3. Enter a name for the folder, then press Return.
