iOS 10.3.2 update drains battery

I have an iPhone 7 Plus. I have had no battery life issues until updating to iOS 10.3.2. Prior to the update I would get a full day of use. I could go from 6 am to 11 pm and still have 20% battery life left. Since updating to 10.3.2, I am at 50% battery life by midday with light use, and need to charge before leaving work for the day. Anyone else having this same issue since upgrading to iOS 10.3.2?

Hello pechapa,
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.

I understand from your post that since updating to iOS 10.3.2 your battery life has decreased. New updates have new features that can use more battery life than previous software versions. I recommend using the steps from the following article to maximize your battery life:

But this doesn't work. I updated my iphone 7 to ios 10.3.2 three days ago and the battery draining issue started. After the update, my phone is heating more while using the usual apps which doesn't cause heating before. After I charged my phone to 100%, stop all apps, off the mobile data and location, and leave it overnight, when I woke up the battery is 0%. This doesn't make sense. This happened everyday when I woke up I need to work and my phone is dead! And I'm travelling to other country too but my phone is such inconvenience! Please fix this issue or I change my phone to android.

We have three devices affected by this issue. One Ipad air, ipod and iphone 5

The backup and restore does not work. The very busy technical support at the local apple store did not have appointment until next week. Many people in line to talk to the genius bar came in due to this issue. (5 people immediately around my family).

My phone is completely useless and bricked unless it is plugged in. Usually I plug it in for 5 minutes and it will turn on. Today I had my 4 year old sons birthday party. Plugged in my iPhone and "1 HOUR" later it turned on. Didn't have gps in a big city and missed his birthday party. He was extremely upset as you could imagine. I now have a Galaxy S8 and will never touch Apple again. I use Apple because they are reliable and have stable apps. Android has way more features but can be unstable. If Apple is headed down the road of unstable and disposable phones, than there is zero competition in my opinion. I'm 10/10 frustrated and there has been zero transparency or even knowledge of there being a problem. I wish you all luck in finding a solution, I've just given up.

On my 6S, since 10.x version, the location services and some other features have drained the battery at a very high rate.

For example:

I use Endomondo while cycling. Before 10.x, I could cycle for 2-4 hours and the battery would drop 100% to 72-75%. Now with 10.x, I often cannot complete a ride before the battery is near zero.

Recently, while away from my chargers for 8-12 hours, the battery was near near zero mid day.

I can cite multiple additional examples.

Going forward, I have disabled ALL location services and ALL active service(email, messages, etc.). So, there is no active app or service other than cellular.

One method of fostering new device purchase is to degrade older devices. Apple is guilty of this. There should be an OS version that does not turn on and install apps and features beyond cellular, message, browsing and email. The only feature active in the iTunes app for me is backup. All other functions are of no use or value. Reliable hardware is my only reason to buy an iPhone.

Going forward, I have disabled ALL location services and ALL active service(email, messages, etc.). Recently the Messages app used 40% of battery while open - this is jut not right. So, there is no active app or service other than cellular. I use apps that monitor activity and kill unnecessary apps - as you must do with Android devices.

I thought I had fixed the battery drain with a fresh copy via restore through iTunes. It helped for a couple days, now it's back to draining and being dead before work ends. It drains faster in standby than when I'm actually on it. Apple really needs to address this. There is no reason this phone should be dying so fast. I've noticed the locator icon on a lot more since the update, so I wonder if that's the culprit. I have a iPhone 6s. Two family members with 6 plus's....same problem.

My last full charge was 2hr 17 mins ago and I have 20% battery left. This has been worse since 10.3.2 but I've seen a marked deterioration since 10.x

I see no reason for this, I have done a hard re-set. Apple please address this and ensure that your reputation for degrading performance prior to a new release is baseless.

I have the same issue since updating to 10.3.2 from 10.3.0, I skipped 10.3.1.

With no change of usage, my battery life has become utterly unacceptable. Off the charger at 08:00 and at 26% at 13:00 whereas before update, it would have been better than 60%. This is not a one off, this is proving consistent since the update. Phone is not capable of performing the functions for which it was purchased.

Very, very dissatisfied.

I have Iphone 6s, Nothing has changed as far as apps or setting on my phone, so I too update my software when I get notified to make sure I have latest patches for Security and what not.. But every time I update.. there is always a surprise.. updated to latest iOS 10.3.2 and found that my phone runs out of battery early after noon.. unbelievable... I used to have more then 50% left before this upgrade every night before charging.. As I do understand that new update comes with more code and more calculations and there for using more power.. But APPLE should learn to test their software before deploying to public... test..test...test.. make the code more efficient so use less power not more!!!!!!

I wonder if there is a way to roll back to previous release, if you are not happy with the performance of the update[s]

I think you'll find in this thread many who will disagree with your diagnosis and course of treatment, myself included.

I specifically said that a stuck process is "possible". And, there people who've posted in this forum who have done what I suggested and found their issue resolved. It's certainly worth trying.

As there are many different things that can affect battery life, it's unlikely that there is any single solution.

I have tried, to no avail, but the fact that so many are reporting dramatic and sudden battery impairment would suggest that Apple are, and this should surprise no one, being disingenuous with their advice. Even in airplane mode and with battery save enabled, drain on my five month old 7+'s battery is such as to indicate a systemic issue in the IOS firmware rather than the additional drain caused by new features included in the update as suggested by the Apple support representative who replied to the original post, and this renders the device impractical for even basic usage.

It also explains the level of impatience and annoyance with many users.

Not it everyone here is a novice and before coming here, I had gone through most, if not all, of the suggested remedies.

Really, there aren't a particularly large number of people reporting this issue. That doesn't make it any less frustrating if you're the one having the problem. But it also makes it likely that there is no single fix for the problem.
