iOS 10.3.2 update drains battery

I have an iPhone 7 Plus. I have had no battery life issues until updating to iOS 10.3.2. Prior to the update I would get a full day of use. I could go from 6 am to 11 pm and still have 20% battery life left. Since updating to 10.3.2, I am at 50% battery life by midday with light use, and need to charge before leaving work for the day. Anyone else having this same issue since upgrading to iOS 10.3.2?

Hello pechapa,
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.

I understand from your post that since updating to iOS 10.3.2 your battery life has decreased. New updates have new features that can use more battery life than previous software versions. I recommend using the steps from the following article to maximize your battery life:

My iphone 6s was working great ( no battery issues) until i unfortunately upgraded to 10.3.2. I was about to go for my overseas vacation and ran to apple store to check on this problem. The lady there said no issues on 10.3.2 update and battery drain and maybe my battery is bad. No time for an appointment so had to leave without any clue how to fix the battery issue. Anyway now I have reverted back to 10.3.1 and my battery lasts for more than 24 hours. The only problem was that my backup done on 10.3.2 was not useable on 10.3.1 and i had to use an older version. I am so ****** with Apple and their customer support folks. Also, a lesson not to upgrade the ios from the phone directly. Should have done from itunes after backing up the iphone.

Had an interesting chat with Apple Support about battery problem. Summary: Apple tech confirmed that my my phone's hardware is working with no problem, battery is in good condition. I covered a lot of detailed that re-inforced that the phone was failing except in low power mode with siri off, location off, no background apps and no active app. When I cited how the rapid battery draining started with 10.x.x update, the chat session was terminated abruptly...

Apple in denial.

I have exactly the same problem since updating my iPhone 7 Plus to iOS 10.3.2. I'm using the same apps as before but now the battery only lasts half a day instead of a full day like previously. I can watch the battery percentage plummet even when doing simple tasks such as browsing Safari, writing WhatsApp messages or using Reddit. Gaming is nearly impossible with this battery drain. Background activity is disabled, location too and low power mode is most of the time enabled.

So... it's June 28, 2017... and I'm still holding off on making the 10.3.2 update to my 6s. I hate to do that, since I'm sure there are essential security updates. But from what everybody is saying, the battery issues still exist? If so I'll wait for 10.3.3 with fingers crossed. Thanks.

The maddening thing is that this battery issue is not across-the-board hitting everyone who has updated to 10.3.2. But because no one can predict who is going to be affected, you take a risk updating. Which is the bigger risk? Not updating and not having the benefit of the security updates, or updating and risk a major hit to your battery? That's a difficult question to answer. How much of a risk do you take either staying with 10..3.1 or updating to 10.3.2? What are the odds for either one? Who knows?

Clearly, you also have the option to wait for iOS 11, which is likely going to be available relatively soon. Hard to say if it will resolve this battery issue, however. Wouldn't it be really great if Apple just came out and acknowledged that this is a big issue with many people and that they are either working on a fix or have come up with a way to fix it? Apple's silence is really hurting them. As you can see (just on this thread alone), a number of Apple loyalists have exasperatingly thrown in the towel and decided to go with a different phone.

Since update to 10.3.2, my iPhone 6plus has randomly shutdown and had to be restarted. There is some evidence that battery drain can randomly drop charge. Most recently it was 10% and then phone shut down. Showed red battery and cord on screen when started , plugged in and immediately powered up and was then at 18% battery. What's going on here? I had zero battery issues before iOS 10.3.2 update.

It's really frustrating Have really tried everything I know what the problem is Normally, the iPhone must be in deep standby mode After 10 minutes If you do not use him But after many tests He does not want in deep standby mode on iOS 10.3.2 But the problem is only on 64 bit Devices 32 bit Devices works perfectly on iOS 10.3.2 So people with 32 bit devices Please feel free to update to iOS 10.3.2 For people with 64 bit Devices, wait until there is a solution And better not update to 10.3.2

And that your iPhone gets hotter That's because he does not want to go into deep standby mode

I have exactly the same issue with my iPhone 5c Since this update. The phone dies with 70% battery and I can't turn it back on unless it's plugged into a power supply. When it's powered back up it still has at least 50% battery left. I have to carry a power bank every where now. Also the home button has stooped work very well. Wish I'd never done the last update. Looking to buy an alternative phone now

I've had the same problem as others after upgrading to 10.3.2. My battery drains in less than half the time it should, apps crash on startup, and the phone freezes and has to be rebooted. There are hundreds of posts showing that this problem is wide spread and is present on all iPhone models. This problem has gone on far too long. I'm so tired of this rigamarole that I have lost interest completely in an iPhone 8 and won't trust iOS 11 when it's released. Reports on the public beta of iOS 11 indicate more problems with battery life. Apple, please stop all development and release of new hardware until you can fix the problems you already have. I own multiple Apple devices and have been a true convert, but my faith is so badly shaken that I will truly consider abandoning all future Apple products.

iOS 11 is much better with an iPad/iphone. It has better interface and many function. iOS 11 will be release in this autumn (September), if you can’t wait anymore you can enroll your device with apple public beta, but if you want a more stable version of iOS, just wait.

Jun 30, 2017 4:07 AM in response to Community User

From your comments, you are apprently with Apple and have access to the newest, highest capacity devices -not what the public uses. So, you do not experience what millions of iPhone users are forced to deal with every day.

There is a point where additional functions and features obsure and degrade the basic functions as with the 10.3.2 update.

Fix the current version. The Pixel and other Android devices are looking very appealing.

Better interface? Another bunch of changes that add zero utility and too much pretty? Don't need them.

Get out in the field and see the real world.
