iOS 10.3.2 update drains battery

I have an iPhone 7 Plus. I have had no battery life issues until updating to iOS 10.3.2. Prior to the update I would get a full day of use. I could go from 6 am to 11 pm and still have 20% battery life left. Since updating to 10.3.2, I am at 50% battery life by midday with light use, and need to charge before leaving work for the day. Anyone else having this same issue since upgrading to iOS 10.3.2?

Hello pechapa,
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.

I understand from your post that since updating to iOS 10.3.2 your battery life has decreased. New updates have new features that can use more battery life than previous software versions. I recommend using the steps from the following article to maximize your battery life:

I NEVER respond or write on forums like this, but seems like enough folks are having these same problems. Apple please do something to reassure your customers they're feedback is not falling on deaf ears. I hate writing crap like this anyway.

Have you actually submitted feedback to Apple? They are not reading here. You should either contact Apple Support, make an appointment at the Genius Bar or use the feedback page:

Have you checked location services? Specifically "Setting time zone" to see if that is being used and draining the battery? This is a new bug or as Apple call it "expected behaviour" that is destroying peoples batteries since 10.3.x

Here is a thread where it is discussed and also some pictures if you can't find the setting:

Went back to chat to Apple this morning and a very helpful lady at least agreed and sympathised with all the frustration Apple users are having with this problem. She did hint that << Apple software developers have been keeping details on secret, however we do know they are working on it >>, and after my suggesting that Apple should at least make an announcement that there is a problem which they are trying to fix to keep their customers in the loop, she also agreed, and suggested I make this point in the feedback section along with any other suggestions I might have regarding so many people looking at other brands because we feel let down by Apple etc etc! and also : << I understand. This situation is frustrating and we don’t handle much information about the issue resolution, so it makes customers upset, as well as us, so the best we can do is summit all the feedback possible >>

I'm sure they've been inundated with similar feedback but I would urge more people send their own until we receive some answers. https://www.apple.com/feedback/

There's nothing more frustrating than having your line of communication disrupted or in jeopardy because of Apple's **** poor way of managing this issue. Pechapa's reply is spot on.

I will give your judgement on politeness all the consideration that such an opinion from someone who can't write a post without vulgarities deserves.

Best of luck

I am also experiencing the same thing & have even gone as far as getting a newer 5s thinking mine had an issue. WRONG!! Same stuff happening to the new one since the latest update. It's frustrating because when one moment it is 100% charged then I take it out of my pocket to find it drained & dead. It takes almost 3 hours of being hooked back up to it's charger to acknowledge any battery. I've checked my battery usage & done all the suggestions to no avail of preventing this issue. We can't all have the same problem across different phone models & all be wrong.

I had a battery drain problem about six months ago, then an update seemed to end it. The minute I ran the 10.3.2 update my iPhone battery started draining rapidly. Normally a 100% battery charge can last me a full two days; at the moment if I unplug my phone from the charger cable the battery drains completely in about 4-5 hours -- while the phone is not being used at all, just sitting on my desk.

P.S. I have not added any new apps. I have exactly the same apps from before the update, and use all the apps in the same way for about the same amount of time every day. It is not the apps.

Hey sterling r, I have noticed over the past year that these battery issues appear and disappear in tandem with updates issued. My battery started doing a crazy drain immediately after installing this update - nothing else on the phone was changed. It's a bit hard for me to believe that it is a "new feature" (Microsoft's absolute favorite phrase, that one!) for the phone battery to drain entirely in four hours while it is not being used, so I'm wondering what else we can all try to get our phones working correctly again? Thanks a bunch!

Well said, Cult Hero... it dawns on me with all these posts across Apple's support forums that Apple either doesn't know how to fix these battery drain issues or doesn't care, maybe a combination of both. That's the only set of reasons I can envision for this problem persisting from iOS 10 into 10.1 and its subsequent versions, then 10.2 and its subsequent versions, now exploding in ridiculousness with 10.3, 10.3.1, and 10.3.2.

EIther Apple can't fix the problem and is therefore incompetent or doesn't care and is arrogantly apathetic. Neither are selling points persuading me to iPhone 8......

May 24, 2017 4:01 PM in response to danieslferr

Honestly said with no attitude, erasing your phone just isn't a fix for this. I'm willing to concede that for some erasing and restoring as new could initially help. At first I thought it did, but each time I've erased this recurring problem emerged again the same day.

I've visited the Genius Bar and was told my battery tests perfectly. When on iOS 10.3.1 I gave the 10.3.2 public betas a try hoping they might relieve the battery drain. Once 10.3.2 officially launched I tried it with no improvement, downgraded to 10.3.1 and restored as new with no improvement, and am now back to 10.3.2 and waiting in vain on a fix. Still I'm only getting around 6 hours of usage with some bug in standby mode or otherwise eating away constantly at the battery.

Again... either Apple is incompetent and doesn't know how to solve this or is arrogant and doesn't care to fix it.

Same for me. 7 Plus here, no issues ever with any iPhone that I have owned ever except now my 7 Plus AFTER upgrading to 10.3.2 this morning. Have had this 7 Plus for over 6 months with excellent battery life. Normal usage for me gets me 2 full days before even getting to 20% battery left. Now, after 10.3.2 upgrade this morning, I'm draining battery quickly. I likely will make it till I get home tonight to plug in, but something is wrong.

Apple acknowledge it & fix it.

May 25, 2017 4:56 AM in response to pechapa

pechapa,

Go to Settings > Battery and scroll down to BATTERY USAGE to see the apps that are consuming your battery. If any of the apps have unusually high usage they can be shut down (double tap the Home button, scroll left or right to find the app, then swipe up to shut it down).

As time goes by you should be able focus on the problem apps. Usually it is a rogue app constantly running in the background. You should then be able adjust the settings to the problem app to solve your problem.

Post your results.
