can anybody suggest how to view xml files on mac

MacBook Pro (13-inch Early 2011), Other OS, MacOS Sierra 10.12

If all you want to do is just peer inside an .xml file, don't overlook Quick Look. Single-click on a .xml file in the Finder, and then just press the spacebar.

xml files are basically text files. You have a number of options both native macOS applications or third-party ones to choose from.
