I understand what you are saying about protecting your privacy. My Yahoo account was hacked 3 times, my bank was hacked and also several places we shop who had our credit card info. I absolutely understand the point of being careful and limiting what I do put online, but we can't shut ourselves up in a drum to protect ourselves and expect to have fulfilled and exciting lives. Sometimes we need to look at the benefits as well as the risks and plan accordingly.
Please don't take anything I said as being personal towards you. I'm not really that much different in beliefs of protecting my privacy than you are. It was just an observation that I've seen from so many when iCloud services are mentioned.
My point being I don't understand so many people's resistance to iCloud when it is no different than using another email service with features like calendars, notes, etc. Apple just slapped a fancy name on it and added a few more features than most have in one package where you can enable what you wish to use in one easy setup window, or use online at the website.
I don't store any personal information in iCloud, and I do not use online storage for anything, except for contacts and calendars which contain no personal information. Like you, I limit my exposure to online sites. But between me & my wife having computers and iPhones and having one of my sons & grandkids living in another state, I will use whatever features make my life easier if I feel it's safe enough.
