My Downloads Folder always empty!

I've downloaded various items from the internet but when I look for them in my Downloads Folder there is NEVER anything in it. I've looked in all the other places like Documents etc. but the downloads are nowhere to be found!

It only seems to be since I upgraded to Sierra.

Would someone please help me on this problem.

How are you viewing the Applications folder?

Icon view? List view?

In Icon view, the items may be arranged manually, and if you add something in there programatically (as in clicking the above mentioned button) you don't control where it will end up - probably in a free spot in the "grid" of icons.

This is what I am guessing happened.

You can, however, force the items to go in order by option-clicking View->Sort By->Name

(this is also true in the other views, list and column)

You wrote: "In Icon view, the items may be arranged manually". Tried that but the icon just jumped back to it's previous position.

Also you wrote: "You can, however, force the items to go in order by option-clicking View->Sort By->Name

(this is also true in the other views, list and column)". Again no go.

I even moved them to alphabetical order in 'Launchpad', which worked fine, but not in the Applications list.

Any further suggestions?

For the Applications folder, what do you have selected under:

View->Arrange By

If that is anything other than "None", it will force the icons to be arranged in some way. That would explain why you can't move the icons.

If it is set to None, then holding down the Option key, you should see "View->Sort By" instead of "Arrange By" and then choosing "Name" should reorder alphabetically.
