iCloud storage full but 5GB free?

I never made an iCloud backup (shown on the iPhone) and I have this error message :

"this iPhone cannot be backed up because there is not enough iCloud storage available"

I'd like just to backup contact and some little apps around 400 MB, why they not enter into 5 GB free iCloud ?

Even if I try to upload 0 MB (all app deactivated) I have the same error message.

I pushed "deleated Backup" too, but the same issue.

iOS 10.3.1

iPhone 5s

many thanks !!

Notes are sync'd like Contacts, Calendars, Reminders. But since your Notes are all "On My Phone", they need to be moved to iCloud in order to sync. In the Folders view on your Notes app on your iOS device, click on the All my Phone folder with the 31 notes.

When the list of notes in that file show up, click on Edit, then on Move All. The folders screen will display again, click on the Notes folder under iCloud. They will sync with iCloud, so will be recoverable.

If you sync the files to iCloud, they remain on your phone.

If you sync Contacts and Notes, they will not be included in your backup, but will be available on your device and at iCloud.com.

The amount of space you have in iCloud is wrong or the amount of data is wrong because if you have 5 GB - 39MB, there should be plenty of room for a 43 MB backup.

Backup couldn’t be completed or you can’t restore

Please tell me more that I could understand what is in and what isn't included in the iCloud backup.

Apple supervisor told me that my 900 contacts are in the iCloud but on my iPhone is written that the backup is failed because there is no available place !

I'd like just to upload contacts, notes and reminders and I think 5 GB is big enough, but maybe it's true that the camera roll is uploading for it's self without

Basically backup and syncing are different things.

Things like contacts, calenders, and reminders are not backed up because they sync between devices. There is still a copy of your contacts in the cloud but as a synced file not as a backup.

Things like Activity data, Strava data, game data etc is backed up because it is specific data to that device.

Photos are kind of a special case because if you use iCloud photo library then the photos in the cloud are synced (i.e. they are there to sync to other devices) but if you don't use iCloud photos and your photos are not synced to other devices they are then backed up to iCloud.

Synced files in the cloud will change as you change them on your device (i.e. the changes you make will be synced to the cloud), but if you make changes to a file on your device that is backed up, the backup will not change (until you make another one)

However, none of this is really relevant to your situation, Your phone is telling you you have almost 5GB of space left in the cloud (5GB - 39KB) it's telling you your next backup size is 43 MB, but it's also telling you there isn't enough room in iCloud for your backup, which if the numbers are correct, clearly can't be the case.

Are sync iCloud file (my 900 contacts from my iphone) restorable to my iPhone if I would need it once ?
To understand if "sync" could go with "restore" too or is "sync going only with sync".

I'm not using iCloud photo library because I store all my photos on my computer and back them up with Time Machine. For this reason I would like to bloc uploading photos to iCloud (but the apple support supervisor told me that camera roll is uploading automatically to iCloud).

Think you that it doing a "sync" like for contacts and notes ??

Could you explain me please what you mean exactly with "which if the numbers are correct, clearly can't be the case. ?"

First time I went into www.icloud.com ! Thanks for the link !

5 GB available !

"Contacts", "Reminders" are there, they must be uploaded automatically because I never hat the possibilities to backup the iphone.

"Notes" on iCloud is empty, but I have 31 on my iphone.

"Photos"on iCloud is empty, with this message: "Cannot load Library, Photos was unable to load photos and videos"

I never would upload photos explained before.

ON MY IPHONE

iCloud: 0 notes

on my iPhone : 31 notes

ON ICLOUD

iCloud: 0 notes

on my iPhone : 0 notes !!

but in the backup that I wish to do "Notes" is checked on "on" like "Contact"and "Reminders".

"Contact"and "Reminders" seems to be uploaded automatically but maybe "Notes" needs to be backup and this function I could not made because of the error message "this iPhone cannot be backed up because there is not enough iCloud storage available". Only 41 KB I would like to upload into 5 GB.

Many thanks GB !!

Now I put on more note into iCloud = 32 notes

Even if I not can do my backup I will be able to recover "Contacts", "Reminders" and "Notes" now.

super !!!!

Yes you will, and you are most welcome! Also, if you delete a Note accidentally, it will go to a Recently Deleted folder which will keep the Note for 30 days. You can restore it from there at any time up to the 30 day threshold!

What do you see under iCloud when you go to Settings>General>Storage & iCloud Usage?

Total Storage

Available

Then when you click on your device to go to the Info page, what does it show for:

Last Backup

Backup Size

Next Backup Size

I just manually backed up my iPhone (which said my next backup was 26.4MB, and after the backup was complete, it showed that the Backup Size for that backup was 1.03GB. However, I believe the 26.4MB only represents the data that is checked below the backup size. But backups also include Mail, Messages, and Other Documents, so those are added to the backup as well. The only one you can't see is how large the backup for Messages is, but Other Documents and Mail can be seen on the Manage Storage page right below the device list. (All of these refer to that same area under Settings>General>Storage & iCloud Usage>Manage Storage (under the iCloud section).

Cheers,

GB
