syncing stops at "preparing to copy items"

I have been syncing photos from my Windows PC to my iPad using iTunes. In fact I just synced photos to my new iPad last week, but this week I want to add another folder and it freezes at step 6 of 6, "preparing to copy items". I have tried several times over two days and rebooted my computer once, but it stops at the same place each time. What happened?

iPad Mini Wi-Fi + Cellular, Windows 10

See If you see error -54 when you sync with iTunes - Apple Support.

Are you doing it over WiFi or with the lighting cable? If it's not working with WiFi, try the lighting cable.

This time it still stopped in the same place but I got an error message saying, "An unknown error occurred (-54)".

When I searched error -54 in support, I found the answer and it now works. Thank you.
