Since inputting a new password my hotmail ac on iPhone is not responding. Getting message 'the POP server imap-mail.outlook.com is not responding'
Network connection ok and receive mail on iPad.
Any suggestions please?

That message doesn't sound right. POP and IMAP are 2 entirely different protocols. You might have setup your mail account incorrectly.
Remove the account. Add it back in and choose Outlook.com account type.
I think if you choose Outlook.com account type, iOS will take care of the (outgoing/incoming) server names. All you need to enter is your email address and password. Take a look at this: Set up email using the iOS Mail app. If you want to set it up manually, here's what you need:
Incoming IMAP Server: imap-mail.outlook.com
Server port: 993
Encryption: SSL
Outgoing SMTP Server: smtp-mail.outlook.com
Server port: 587
Encryption: TLS
Alternate IMAP server: imap.outlook.com

i won't lose my hotmail account in my iPad by deleting ac on iPhone?
i have folders with very important documents.

Your iPad will not be affected.
Thanks for your prompt reply - it's worked perfectly for years until changing password.
My host name for incoming mail is imap-mail.outlook.com
What exactly should I enter?
