Postgres Popup

I've had this window pop up (for milliseconds!) for some time now and have been unable to track it down. Although it occurs while using FCPX I'm not sure it is to do with FCPX directly but it does seem to do with graphic related apps as it seems to occur (mostly, but not exclusively) when I'm using Lightroom and Photoshop. Incredibly I was just about to post this question in a macOS forum when I saw this. Glad you managed to get a screenshot of it!!

This problem showed up mysteriously on my Mac a while ago. I was spending hours and hours trying to track it down. Its appearance seemed to coincide both with an Adobe CC update and installing the latest version of Resolve.

The only way I have found to get this to stop is to go to Apple Menu > System Preferences > Users and Groups and select the Login Items Tab. In the list you will see an item that refers to SQL or postgres (I've forgotten the exact name). You need to select it and click the minus button on the lower left to get it out of the list. You'll need to unlock the pane to do this. Checking Hide won't do it - you have to actually remove it from the list.

Since doing so, I have not seen it again and I have not noticed any consequences for doing so - although your millage may vary - so best practice is to make and keep a viable backup of your system drive, just in case.

No I don't have Resolve, but I did do an Etrecheck and got the following which coincided with the popups:

Postgres is a database system. AFAIK neither FCP X or Motion uses it.

You should look at logs in Console at the time such alerts appear. Maybe it will let you clarify the origin of this.

Resolve apparently uses postgresql and installs it. Do you have Resolve in your mac as the OP does?

That is good info.

Often this are "helper" applications that since they are in login items they run all the time even though they are not necessary.

Any reference to postgres in launch daemons or services?

I've just remembered - I did install a test version of Resolve some years ago but never used it! 😐
