Warranty Coverage Error

Hello, I am trying to get some information about the service options on my MacBook Pro, but when I input the serial number into the warranty check tool, I get the following error message: "we're sorry, but we are unable to complete your request at this time. please try again later." All of my other apple devices work fine, but the one does not. Could this be because I purchased this as an Open-Box purchase from a Best Buy?

If it is purchased new from an authorized reseller, the product should register itself (so to speak) when you sign in with your Apple ID.

However, open box items may or may not qualify as "new" - after all, they were purchased/used (even if only for a short time) previously. And, buying a used Mac from a third party usually does not qualify for a warranty unless the device had been registered with the extended Applecare Protection Plan (which is transferable since it is attached to the serial number, not a person).

So, definitely check with Apple to make sure as deggie suggested.
