Hi,
I am trying to install the File Name Repair Utility to fix some garbled filenames (Arabic), but even if I enable "OpenAnyway", it won't let me install and use the program.
All this despite the fact I downloaded the File Name Repair Utility from the Apple Support website...

In the picture below you can see my problem. The filenames are garbled, probably because they were originally in Arabic and the font somehow got mixed up. I am looking for a way to un-garble them back into Arabic font.
Meanwhile I tried the Unarchiver...didn't work. May have to do with the fact that the original creator of the Arabic files was working on PC Windows, while the Unarchiver only offers Arabic support for Mac?
Nothing to do with fonts. Probably filenames created in the old Windows Arabic encoding, Mac requires Unicode. You should be able to use the Apple utility. Do you have version 1.1 (File > Get Info)? Try deleting what you have and downloading again from the Apple page.
Thanks Tom, I downloaded from the link you provided earlier. Unfortunately, it couldn't repair the files when set to Arabic. It looks to me as if the files are beyond repair. Thanks for all the help and suggestions.
See if Name Mangler will do the job. You can try the demo version (10 files at a time).
Is it this tool that you are referring to? File Name Encoding Repair Utility v1.0.
System requirements state Mac OS X 10.1.x and 10.2.x.

What MacOS version are you really running?
