Carrier Settings Update Failure

iTunes is telling me that there is a carrier settings update available for my phone. When I click to update I get an error: iTunes could not update the carrier settings on your iPhone. An unknown error occured (-100000). Going to SETTINGS>GENERAL>ABOUT on my phone shows my carrier settings but there is nothing there indicating an update is available. So iTunes is telling me there is an update but my phone doesn't seem to know there is one. Any ideas?

I am also having the same error. I have an iPhone 7 Plus 10.3.2 (14F89) Sprint. I've tried resetting my Windows PC thinking that maybe it was a program like my antivirus but still no success. It's odd because my sister owns the same phone and I checked her carrier settings in General>About>Carrier hers shows Sprint 28.4 and mine shows Sprint 28.2 so it's obvious that I need to update my carrier settings. The option to update should be appearing in the "About" section of the phone but it doesn't show up. I've browsed endlessly through other peoples' discussions 2-5 years old and your post current is the only one with the same error code that I'm getting (-100000). I'll keep researching and let you know if I find something. Please let me know if you find something.

SOLUTION!!

I just moved over to the Sprint network and had this same issue; I was finally able to update Sprint Carrier settings from 28.2 to 28.4!

My exact steps:

Close iTunes, disconnect device.

Download the latest carrier settings .IPCC file-

I used https://ipcc.cf/ and specifically downloaded the version 28.4 file for iPhone on sprint from https://ipcc.cf/carriers/us/sprint/ (saved the file to my desktop)

Open a terminal on your iMac or MacBook (applications>utilities>terminal)

Copy and paste the following line:

defaults write com.apple.iTunes carrier-testing -bool YES

Press enter. Reattach your device.

Open iTunes. (The same error as before- "update carrier settings", try to download and error as before).

NOW FOR THE FIX- choose the device summary page (the page with the device name, backups, options, etc).

HOLD DOWN the OPTION key and click "check for update".

A window will open (rather than connect to the internet), then navigate to your desktop (to wherever you downloaded the .IPCC file), and choose the downloaded .IPCC file.

The update is done instantly! I then checked the carrier settings and they were updated to Sprint 28.4 , I turned off my phone and turned it back on, reconnected to iTunes, and no more error! The carrier settings stayed at 28.4!

You're welcome!

I've troubleshooted like crazy. Still no success. The things I've tried include doing a system back-up on iTunes (as a fail safe) then a system restore to factory settings then testing if the carrier update will go through. I've also tried switching to cellular then making sure to let settings run on cellular, looked for the best reception around the block. Finally rebooting the system and then checking General>About>Carrier but it didn't work. I also suspected maybe something is misconfigured on my router so I tested the update on other Computers (both Mac & Windows). All devices return error (-10000) I will now have to test the download at another Network maybe at a Free Wifi Location and if that fails too my last resort would be to visit my carrier provider (Sprint) your's maybe different. If that fails too my only conclusion would be that the error is on Apple's side. Which means waiting it out. I will update you on how the troubleshooting goes (Hopefully it works) let me know if you find something.

I Solved this problem by manually updating the Carrier settings to 28.4 using iTunes. You can do this by going to http://ipcc.cf and following the instructions there. You first download the ipcc file that corresponds to your carrier then you run a batch file on your computer which unlocks "carrier testing mode" which allows you to install the ipcc to your phone.

Hope this helps 🙂

Which batch file?

I was also surprised to find that my current Carrier Settings file 28.2 is not in my carrier's list. There's only 28.3 and 28.4.

I would not recommend attempting to install carrier settings from any source other than your carrier. While I've never heard of them being used as a vector for malware, corrupted settings could cause your phone to stop working properly.

Try resetting your network settings. Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings. You'll lose saved WiFi passwords but nothing else.

Well, that's exactly what Jarcreses above suggested 🙂

But as IdrisSeabright mentioned, not be a good idea to install carrier settings from a source other than Apple or your carrier (while the site you posted does have a link a site that appears to be Apple, I could not verify this).

It is very likely that iOS 10.3.3 (in beta now) will be released in the next two weeks, so I'll wait till then to see if Apple fixes this problem (looks to be an Apple issue, not a Sprint one), as the Sprint Carrier Settings 28.2 does not appear to be causing any issues on my new iPhone

My family bought 4 phones on the 17th. they all have the same issue. I have been on the phone with Apple technical support and they are going to call me back once they get more info. I personally think that there is a mistake in the upgrade script that can't find the right file from the 28.2 version that came installed on the phones we bought. I think I'd wait rather than force an update. What exactly does the update provide that we are missing? I'll wait for my call back.

just spent another 60 minutes on the phone with apple tech rep and sprint rep. sprint guy walked me through allthe same steps again. uhhhh. Apple tech did have notes on the issue and ask the sprint rep to re-provision the account. he had to escalate the issue so now I will wait and see. Kelsey who has been helping me at apple has been great. I feel she is taking on this problem for me personally. I'll update when I hear more. QUESTION - does everyone that has this problem have service with sprint and did you all get your phones within the last month or two? just curious.

Thanks.

Mine is iPhone 7Plus 32gb and i got it the day I posted the question, maybe the day before. Still have the issue.

I downloaded the file as someone had previously suggested but haven't done anything with it. The first guy said to run a BAT file but never specified WHICH file. Apparently he thinks there's only one?

The next guy to provide step by step instructions said to use an iPad or some other Apple hardware. I do not have either so those steps don't pertain to me.

I'm thinking no for me. I'm not sure where those source file came from and if they are correct. Given the fact there was a huge cyber attack on Tuesday morning that affected my company I will wait for the correct method of update. And if I have to command line edit iTunes to get this to install there is a bigger problem that Apple/Sprint needs to fix. I think I'll just wait and give them time to at least try to fix it. I'm not sure what the update does exactly but my phone has been working. I'm supposed to get an update call tomorrow. I'll post info as I get it.
