iPad Pro 10.5" back protection case

I'm in EXACTLY same situation, i am replacing my iPad Air 2 for which i currently have the smart case and ordered the 10.5" iPad Pro but wanted the same case and have so far had to settle for just the smart cover. Hoping the silicone case currently available for the iPad Pro 9.7" is released imminently for the 10.5" so i can complete my midnight blue compliment!

Yep I'm in the same boat. Went to order one for my child (iPad's are used at her school under a BYOD program) but had to stop when I couldn't purchase a back cover. It's mandatory school policy that iPad's may only be brought to school if they have front and back protection to minimise the chance of accidental damage.

Am surprised to hear that. The ESR case with Smart Cover attached, which I bought covers the corners very well indeed. In fact it has a nice "bumper" protecting corners and the edges, which protrudes slightly above the level of the screen, so if the iPad Pro is laid screen down on a flat surface, without the Smart Cover closed to protect it, the screen itself does not touch that surface and is held about 2mm clear of it.

Ahhh that explains it. You didn't choose their case that gives full bumper protection. The description of the one you chose emphasises [Synthetic Leather] and is available in a wider choice of colours Including silver grey.

Look at the bottom item in the screen grab below, it emphasises an Upgraded Soft DPU Bumper Edge and [Corner Protection]. That is the one I have and is only listed with colour choice between Black, Rose Gold or Champagne Gold. It also has ventilation slots running down the long side from the camera.

Many people have been asking for a leather rear cover for the 10.5. Apple doesn't seem interested in making one. While you're waiting, you might want to have a look at something like this -

I found a case, very similar to the leather one I had for my iPad Air on Amazon here in the U.K. The only draw back is that the Smart Cover is an integral part, which means you would have to remove the whole case in order to attach the Keyboard, even though you can see the connectors, it would be a guess at the moment as to whether the Keyboard fitting would slot inside the space available. That aside it offers good protection ...

I am sure other cases and covers for the new 10.5 inch iPad Pro will be coming soon from other third party manufacturers.

I had to go to amazon and purchase the JETech case. It looks like the silicone case and smart cover. It cost me about $23 with shipping. I'm not expecting much but it will do until apple releases theirs. iMore.com put out a list of available cases and covers if you want to see whats out there now. It isn't much but it's better than a sleeve in my opinion.

I do not think Apple will be releasing any back cases for the new iPad Pros. They would have already had them. Think about the Genius Bar, all Apple employees always have the back of their iPads... naked! It seems that Apple wants us to have the backs of our iPads free and clear. It is probably a ploy to sell more iPads... People see the gold or the black, then they buy the color they thought was so cool. Either that or Apple wants to sell a few more iPads by making it easier to damage the back.

I was considering going for the 10.5, but I need protection on the back. Luckily, I have a back case from the old 12.9 iPad Pro. This back case will most likely fit the new one. It will probably block the new mic, but that is okay for me. I would rather have the protection on the aluminum case.

It is not fair that Apple does this. Apple makes us reliant on a case, and then takes it away. I love aluminum, but it is not durable on an iPad. I dont trust these other cases either. They either leave color or glue on your product, and they have no color fastness standards.

Remember the good old days when Apple took notice of what the customers were asking for, and you could even get replies from high-level employees addressing your concerns... Ugh... The new Apple is not friendly...

I have a 9.7 iPad Pro and this is what I chose to get:

It has an excellent grip, does not mar the case and is easy to take off for my keyboard (not an Apple keyboard). For the screen, I chose the Zagg Invisible glass screen protector, which was also a good choice. Between the two, it is protected and I slip it in a leather envelope style formfitting bag.

I would assume that they would offer this in a size to fit the new ipad Pro.

I will be buying a iPad Pro 10.5 when I can find a Smart Case that covers front and back.

I am in a power wheel chair all day and need to have the back protected.

Not a smart move by apple to make the Smart Cover. It won't get the job done. I will keep looking for

a Smart case. If anyone finds one Let me know.

why would you spend over $1,000 for a fully loaded 10.5 iPad Pro and not want it covered.

It is supposed to be compatible with the Apple Smart Cover and Apple Smart Keyboard.

For the life of me, I can't understand Apple's decision to not offer a back silicone case for the 10.5" iPad. What's so frustrating is they offer it for the 12 and 9.7 iPads, why not for the new one???????

I just bought the 9.7 with 512GB and LTE, which is over $1000. That aint cheap, so having the back exposed to scratching is not acceptable. If Apple messed up and didn't get the silicone case ready for launch, OK no big deal, just let us know it's coming. If not, then they need to please reconsider.

I traded in my Pro 9.7 for the new 10.5.

I ordered and received the 10.5 Smart Cover - not realizing it doesn't have a back.

I had a JETech for my Ipad Pro 9.7 and was satisfied with it.

I will order the JETech for the 10.5 at amazon for $12.99 (Prime shipping is free). Hopefully it nice and snug and holds up.

I will now have to return the Apple Smart Cover, but ill only get a $49.99 store credit since it was purchased using a gift card.

What am i gonna do with a store credit? I wont use it 😟
