iPad Pro 10.5" back protection case

Hi,

I'm going to buy iPad Pro 10.5". As I travel quite often and watch movies, I love Smart Cover feature which lets me stand iPad in a way so that I can watch movies on a plane. But it is crucial for me to protect whole iPad, back of it as well. No I have iPad Air 2 with Smart Case which protects whole iPad. Unfortunately I can see that in iPad Pro 10.5" there is only Smart Cover available, there is no Silicone Case for 9.7-inch iPad Pro - Midnight Blue - Apple which protects back of iPad in iPad Pro. Apple, will you release Smart Case for iPad Pro 10.5" anytime soon? For now I'll buy Smart Cover only and try to put my iPad front on each surface, but please release leather case which protects back of iPad and works with Smart Cover (the same set as exists currently for iPad Pro 9.7" but in leather).

Best regards,

Michal

I have this exact same problem. I am extremely disappointed with Apple's decision to discontinue the silicon back.

I've kept my iPad 3 in a silicone case since the day I got it and it has kept it in absolutely perfect condition. There is not a single scratch on it anywhere. Without a case it, the aluminum easily scratches, and you have to be much more careful about where to take it an how to store it.

I was very excited to upgrade, but I certainly will not be now. I can't justify spending $900 on a device without back protection.

Seems like nothing more than a despicable scheme to sell more iPads by making them easier to damage.

Apple will be losing out on much more of my money than they will be gaining.

I just purchased the 10.5 iPad Pro along with the smart keyboard and was bitterly disappointed that my iPad was not protected on the back side, not even the corners, not much protection at all, making this a fragile piece of equipment. I have used the apple leather covers for years on all of my iPads as well as the more rugged cases from Griffin and Otterbox from time to time when I work outside. I purchased the apple protection plan so I am not too worried about damage, worst case $49 to repair unless of course there is something hidden here. Thank you all for the suggestions, The companion cover listed in the previous post is the only immediate option but not available until June 29. I also considered the Zagg cover but it is pre-order. I thank anyone in advance for helping me find something I can get quick.

Apple, as a long time costumer, I would very much like to see a smart keyboard that protects my iPad just like the older leather classy covers of yesterday.

There is often a good reason why Apple don't do something.

The other day I noticed my iPad Pro 10.5 got rather hot at the back when I was doing some CPU intense work. It made me wonder if Apple have decided against the silicon back in order to prevent excessive insulation and potential overheating. The chip is working much harder than the 9.7 ipad and the bare aluminum back will conduct the heat away more efficiently. It's just a thought :-/

Such a product does not currently exist from Apple. And typically, they release their official accessories from the products launch at WWDC so that owners such as yourself can buy them.

Nobody knows if they will eventually release the case you'd like. However, personally speaking I don't think so because they've released them in the past and if they were planning to, but unable to due to production issues they'd normally have announced it and said when it would be available.

I'd keep checking for third party cases. Or buy a sleeve case for now to keep it in with the current Apple Smart Cover so that the whole device is protected.

Even a cheap, generic 11" laptop sleeve would fit the iPad Pro plus Smart Cover for now. Until the perfect case for you comes along :-)

Good point.

The ESR case I bought from Amazon in the U.K. does have two cut out ventilation areas at the back running down the long side below the camera.

I have the cover from apple.... the pen... not too happy to know that rumours have said they won't be making the back cover....

So here's plan b, you can purchase from AliExpress. Here's something I found where it can work temporarily. Quality won't be the same as the silicone backing and front cover From Apple.

Have not been too sure whether external links were allowed, but see some have been posted OK so he is the link for the case I have bought from Amazon UK. It fits perfectly, the cutouts are accurate and it offers good protection to the iPad Pro 10.5

+1 on this. I must say, it's a little bit ridiculous that so few vendors are supplying iPad 10.5" accessories. I don't know if it was Apple's failure to properly disclose the specs to the external accessory manufacturers or if everyone's just too lazy to redesign their products to accommodate the new iPad size. Either way, it's very annoying. I've got a brand new iPad with no case and no cover right now because I'm waiting for a vendor to release a case/screen cover that is to my liking... By the way, why do so few cases/covers seem to support sleep/wake features these days? It used to be almost universal before, and now it seems like more cases don't support this feature than the ones that do.

Hi. I've also had to buy a 3rd party case in the UK, I went for ESR but it just doesn't quite cover the corners properly so I would avoid. I've just ordered jetech, hopefully that covers it better. I'm going to leave feedback at apple as suggested and point out that I am buying very cheap 3rd party cases because they seem to do what we need, as opposed to buying a very expensive apple case that does not.

I asked Apple Support and they told me that they can't imagine Apple won't release a back case for the new iPad Pro's However, that the opinion of the person in the support team, not an official statemen. I think Apple didn't release the back case because of the new leather sleev, in order to boost the initial sale of the sleeve. They will probably release one later on, at least we all hope so. I also really liked the 9.7" Silicon case.

Apple does what Apple wants. Their history is not selling you what YOU want, but making you want what they sell. The general consensus of reviews indicates that there is no rear cover from Apple and none will be forthcoming. You have to ask yourself WHY. Rear covers are very popular - there are lots of companies coming. Out with them which tells you there is a market for them. It's very odd - Apple apparently gave them the templates for the cutouts since some were available out of the chute. But they clearly don't encourage it. Why does apple NOT want you to protect your device????? It's funny because I was in an Apple Store today and the. People had all their devices protected front and back.

They didn't care that the overwhelming population didn't want to lose their 3.5 mm earphone jack. Too bad - you don't have it. But at least they had an argument that there was a technological advsnce involved. What technological advance is served by your device completely at risk with no rear cover? I can think of none.

So we can whine all we like, they won't sell a sled for the back unless they want to. And it seems that they dint want to.

The only thing I can think of is that perhaps they want you to bang up your iPad so you'll buy another to help spur drooping sales, or perhaps make the market for used devices less attractive to limit speed up the replacement cycle with new purchases from them - who knows. But this I DO know - nothing said here will make a difference.
