Neither DND nor the mute switch affect the alarm. However, using the buttons on the side will.

Yes, the buttons on the side of the phone can raise or lower the alarm volume.
i had the same problem yesterday. normally not such big deal...it just happend that I had a flight in the morning, which I missed, because the alarm went off silently 😢. i am tyring your advice now. hope i can get this problem fixed and it wont happen ever again....
Thanks for that info and choosing the Apple Support Communities. Based on what you stated, it seems you are experiencing issues with the alarms when your iPhone has the Ring/Silent switch is set to silent. To help resolve this issue, force close the Clock app and restart your iPhone as iOS clears cached data and does other system optimizations when you turn your device off and on. Then test your issue again.
Force an app to close on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
Restart your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
If your issue is still not resolved, your next step is to reinstall iOS on your device; this will help us isolate the situation further. Reinstalling iOS should not affect any of your data, but it is always a best practice to make sure you have a current backup in either iTunes or iCloud.
How to back up your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch
Import photos and videos from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
Once you have a current backup, follow the steps from the "If your device turns on but gets stuck during start up" section in this article:
If your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch won't turn on
Use the “Update” option and not “Restore” and these steps will reinstall iOS. Keep in mind that these steps were written for a different issue, but they will still help us isolate the situation further. Cheers!
I follow the instructions for a force clothes. The problem still exist on silent mode alarm will not sound but only vibrates.
I suspect that "silent" means "silent."
you mean as in the volume of your alarm....
I started to make some tongue-in-cheek comments but stopped out of fear that I would be believed.
better dont makes jokes here - its a serious issue - the flight i had to buy at the airport did cost me half a months salary.
why doesnt my alarm make sound on silent mode?
