WordPress backup to iCloud

I just looked into backing up my WordPress database using Updraft plugin. When I searched their FAQ for icloud this is what I found:

User:

"Is there a way to save to iCloud by apple ? thank you"

udadmin Keymaster Hi Laurent:

"Unfortunately not – Apple don’t provide any interfaces for third parties like ourselves to access iCloud."

I am paying $9/month for getting 2 terabytes why can't I use it for backups?

Also, is there a FTP address for iCloud I can use?

iPad Pro Wi-Fi, iOS 10.3.2, 12"

This is what iCloud backs up -- What does iCloud back up? - Apple Support. What you can use iCloud for -- iCloud: What is iCloud?

Unfortunately I don't know anything about FTP addresses but this is what I found -- FTP access to documents on iCloud?

The part about FTP may be current but the information about iCloud only being used for Numbers, Pages, Photos and Mac device backups is out of date because I have save saved all sorts of files using the iCloud Drive App for iPad. PDFs, non-Mac backup files, zip files, etc.

I guess I am wondering why Apple restricts it's storage to iCloud and why it doesn't behave like the Dropbox API, able to integrate with other apps.
