iPad Restore - Preserve App Folder Organisation

I recently bought a new iPad and wanted to use a previous backup from an old iPad to restore onto the new iPad. Having completed the restore process I noticed all my apps, which I had carefully organised into folders, were now no longer in their folders, but simply in an A-Z sequence. I googled this issue, but all the posts were quite old and suggested a two-stage restoration process. This involved using the restore from manual backup process first then right-clicking the iPad icon on iTunes which would then reveal another restore option. According to these posts this two-stage process would make sure the apps were restored in their relevant folders. I tried this approach, but right-clicking the icon did nothing.

Any advice as to how to successfully restore, but keeping app folder organisation would be appreciated.

This is what I did yesterday which achieved the desired results:

  1. backed up my old iPad to iCloud. (I assume this would also work backing up to iTunes)
  2. activated my new iPad Pro to get to the desktop. (You’ve already done this so you can skip to step 3)
  3. went to settings, General, reset, and then selected Erase all content and Settings
  4. went through the setup assistant to set up my new iPad and selected the iCloud backup to restore from.

This not only synced all my apps to the new iPad Pro putting them in the folders and desktops as they were on the previous iPad, it also set up my email accounts etc.
