Different numbers: "camera roll" vs "Photos"

Hi,

I have taken 1500+ pictures with my iPhone 7 and want to export them to my MAC and clean my phone.

When i hook up my phone and look at the "new"counter in Photos, it states a higher number then the counter of my ios "camera roll".

Even if i count the burst pictures to the number in camera roll, the total is still below the "new" counter in Photos.

So the big question is: how is it possible that these numbers differ ? I do not want to lose any photo's when exporting.

Ps: "image capture" says the same number as "photos".

ps2: i do not use iCloud for my pictures.

kind regards and thank you,

Tom.

Hi,

Here is a breakdown as seen in ios camera roll, but i fail to understand how it calculates it's total count of 1675 :-(

(or how "Photos" calculates a total of 1689) ...

Camera roll breakdown:

- videos: 276

- live photos: 837

- panoramas: 14

- bursts: 5 (3 pics/10 pics/6 pics/2 pics/2 pics)

- screenshots: 5

- recently del: 236

My albums:

- layout: 2

- whatsapp: 9

- dropbox: 2

- instagram: 2

- faceapp : 0

Thank you for helping out,

Tom.

How many normal photos do you have? JPEGs, that are neither Live Photos nor panoramic nor any other of the categories you listed?

Any hidden photos?

I'd just import all photos that are showing as new, to be on the save side. On your Mac you can try to identify the additional photos easier. Since the number is larger than your camera roll, you'll be on the safe side. The few additional photos might be externally edited photos or photos in My Photo Stream.
