Opacity of a Fade to Color Transition

I know this may sound silly, but I'm using a fade to color transition in white to end a clip and I wanted to change its opacity.

I want the clip to turn to a soft white, and then dissolve without ever actually completely covering the clip. Right now, it turns to a soft white and turns all white, then dissolves again. I just want a way to avoid it reaching this solid white. Is there a way to do this (either by changing the opacity of the transition, or any other way?).

Here it is, in a first and unsophisticated version.

Dropbox - Fade to Color 50%.zip

Download the linked file, expand the zip if it does not do so automatically.

You will have a folder called "Fade to Color 50%".

You need to place this folder in a place where FCP X can see it.

It has to be inside one folder inside the Transitions folder:

/Users/<yourname>/Movies/Motion Templates/Transitions/<some folder>/

Below is a picture showing how these folders should appear in the Finder, starting with your own Movies folder (inside your home folder). I named the category "Lichinho" but you can call it anything that is meaningful to you.

If for some reason you don't already have the "Motion Templates" folder, or the "Transitions" folder inside it, create them so as to make the hierarchy like in the picture (*)

(*) If you need to create the Motion Templates folder, or the Transitions folder, then there will be a little extra step.

For these two folders alone, you need to add the ".localized" extension. Select the folder, press command-I, and add the extension in the Get Info window. It should look like this:

Thank you for your reply!

I used to use the luminance map transition in fcp 5 and the clip would dissolve with a low opacity white flash over it (I'm sorry if this doesn't make any sense). I'm trying to recreate that with the fade to color transition but I think you have a point that keyframes would allow me for better control. I've used keyframes to change opacity, but I don't want to modify the opacity of the clip itself, I just want a very soft white "flash" over my clip while it disappears. I've tried layering a white frame with low opacity and fade transitions but the effect is not the same.

here is an example of what I'm talking about (the best example is around 0:51)

again I'm so sorry if this is confusing.

If I understand what you are trying to do it seems easy to make a transition like that in Motion.

I did a first test in about two minutes.

I just created a new transition, added a solid color generator on top and keyframed its opacity from 0% to 50% to 0%.

You can try this yourself if you have Motion. If not, I can make a few more adjustments and make it available.
