Opacity of a Fade to Color Transition

Here it is, in a first and unsophisticated version.

Download the linked file, expand the zip if it does not do so automatically.

You will have a folder called "Fade to Color 50%".

You need to place this folder in a place where FCP X can see it.

It has to be inside one folder inside the Transitions folder:

/Users/<yourname>/Movies/Motion Templates/Transitions/<some folder>/

Below is a picture showing how these folders should appear in the Finder, starting with your own Movies folder (inside your home folder). I named the category "Lichinho" but you can call it anything that is meaningful to you.

If for some reason you don't already have the "Motion Templates" folder, or the "Transitions" folder inside it, create them so as to make the hierarchy like in the picture (*)

(*) If you need to create the Motion Templates folder, or the Transitions folder, then there will be a little extra step.

For these two folders alone, you need to add the ".localized" extension. Select the folder, press command-I, and add the extension in the Get Info window. It should look like this:

If I understand what you are trying to do it seems easy to make a transition like that in Motion.

I did a first test in about two minutes.

I just created a new transition, added a solid color generator on top and keyframed its opacity from 0% to 50% to 0%.

You can try this yourself if you have Motion. If not, I can make a few more adjustments and make it available.

Not quite sure what you’re doing but rather than using a transition try using the opacity controls with keyframes for better control.

There is a gradient image transition that's basically the same as the legacy transition. It uses a drop zone to add a grayscale image for the transition. It should behave as you want.
