I was on a creditable job posting site, clicked the link to read more information about the job, and an apple security message popped up saying I have three known viruses on my phone. Is this a scam?

An iPhone can't get a virus, so there is no need for a virus scan. It's doubtful that someone has hacked you - the pop-up scam is a common occurrence and doesn't require hacking. If someone's managed to get hold of your ID and password they could gain access to your data, of course, so the first thing to do is to change your iCloud password (sign out on all your devices before you do this then sign back in with the new password once it's been changed).

Thank you. Another question, do you know of any good iPhone virus scan products? Or how to confirm that someone has hacked into my phone? I have suspected for various reasons stemming as far back as three weeks ago that someone has hacked into my iPhone, which led me to be more concerned with the pop-up scam.

Yes, it's a scam. No-one can detect remotely that you have a virus (even if that itself were possible on a phone, which it isn't). Without exception, all pop-ups or messages claiming that you have a virus (or for that matter that your Apple ID has been 'locked' and needs to be 'verified') are scams attempting to either sell you useless (and often harmful) applications, or to get hold of your ID and password. Never ever follow links or phone telephone numbers given in such messages.
