Sky Q TV box + Imac Retina 5K Display 4.2GHz

Does anybody know of a workaround to get my Sky Q TV box (HDMI output) to successfully output to my latest-gen iMac? I've bought the HDMI to USB-C adapter but it appears Apple doesn't currently support this use. It used to work on 4K imacs but doesn't work on the 5K apparently

Normally a workaround/supporting tech appears while Apple make up their minds as to whether they're going to help facilitate this function. Does anybody know of anything?

Before somebody tells me to buy a TV, i don't want/need a TV as the iMac won't be used as a TV screen/monitor that often and I don't have the space.

Thanks

iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, 2017), macOS Sierra (10.12.5)

You will likely want a video capture hardware/software combination that incorporates USB-C. Elgato https://www.elgato.com/en

has been very good at supporting the Mac platform with digital capture technologies that effectively turn the Mac into a TV itself. They might be able to tell you the right adapter to use.

One of the big problems is that not all cables properly transmit the HDCP copy protection signal in the right timing. If there is anything copy protected in the video content of the device, it may not transfer over.
