What happened to the fraction characters in TextEdit. Before I upgraded from OS X to Sierra, if I typed a simple fraction like 1/2 the appropriate fraction character was returned. Now, it's not. Moreover, I can't find fraction characters in Special Characters anymore. What gives?
MacBook Air, macOS Sierra (10.12.5)
Try going to System Preferences/Keyboard/Text - you can create a replace with to give you the fractional character.
To find them in the Special Character palette, make sure it is expanded (button in top, right), then type "fraction" into the search field.
You can then use that to put the fractions into text replacement as Eric noted above.
