Im trying to drag and drop video files of around 300mb from Photos (in Sierra) into either an sdcard or a separate folder on the desktop.

the default player for them is an app called ringer which you can makes ringtones for your phone. I actually want to make default player quicktime but I find where I can set this so if you have any ideas......
Select one of the exported videos in the Finder. Then open the Info panel by entering the key combination ⌘I or use the Finder menu bar (File > Get Info).
In the Info panel you can set "Open With" to QuickTime Player and then click the "Change All" button.
What happens when you try? Is there an error message?
Is your library an iCloud Photo Library? If yes, are all media stored locally, or is the library optimized?
Leonie, when i drag it the icon becomes transparent and also has a small green + sign. When i attempt to drop it nothing really happens, it just vanishes. When i go to look to see if its there or maybe taking some time to be sent there is no sign of. I have tried other video files and they have been sent quite quickly.
The files are from my iPhone which i had to plug into the laptop to get onto the laptop as they didn't seem to want to upload automatically via photostream which is turned on.

That is right. My Photo Stream only transfers photos, not videos. So you have to import them using the USB connection. Shared albums would transfer videos, but only reduced in size.
Do these videos play correctly, when you try to view them? Can you edit them? They may have been imported incompletely. Are they still on the iPhone?
that answers the photo stream thing, wasn't aware that it only syncs photos not video. Hey Larry, you are right they do export ok but they take a looooong time and there is no scroll bar to let you know its processing. The videos are only around 300mb as well and I've got 8gb of ram on the laptop so not sure why it takes so long.
best solution is to export it - file menu ==> export

Tried this Larry and again nothing seems to happen.
It asked me where I wanted to export it to so I selected the relevant folder on the desktop but it hasn't been sent.
what does happen? Export is real time - no back ground processing - yu shoud get a complete notice and the file will be in teh folder you exported to

Export the unmodified original - it goes much faster - if you do not the video is recompressed
