Ask what colour bezel in stores please!I

Just purchased an iPad pro from Canberra Apple store, got home opened the box and it had a white bezel, so I have to treck back and have a 'conversation' with the staff and get a replacement.

I stood in front of a black bezel 10.5 display unit, picked it up and said this one please with cellular, xxram, pencil and keyboard. Prefer gold or rose gold back but not that fussed.

Not asked about choosing the colour of bezel, didn't notice a white one when viewing the recent keynote and no images of ipad pro with a white bezel anywhere on apple.com.

So be warned if this matters to you, which it probably does cos thats why you are getting an ipad pro In the first place.

Thanks for the answers which were quick to say that I was in error.

if you go to to the tech specs page:

https://www.apple.com/iPad-pro/specs

Look at the 'Finish" - 10.5 model, four colour options, no mention of black bezel only available with space grey. No mention of bezel at all in fact.

so as a rational person - in the shop I said I wanted "this one" holding a black bezel unit pointing at the screen, and would like a rose gold back but I wasn"t fussed about the colour of the back.

At this point a competent sales person should have mentioned that the black bezel ie black front, was ONLY available with a space grey back.

Also purchased a pencil and keyboard which were brought to the table in a pile, I looked at the back of the iPad box to check the model number, cellular and storage were correct.

I believe any of the gold, sliver and rose gold backed iPads ONLY come with the white screen bezel.

Apple has paired all their brighter color backed iDevices with white screen bezels.

Only the space gray backed iPad models only come with the black screen bezel.

So, if you want the black screen bezel, your only option is a space gray backed iPad.

With other black bezel iDevices, it's either the space gray or jet black back colors.

Sorry, that's the way it is.

Good Luck!

It is very simple to find out that a black bezel only comes with the space gray model and all the other case colors come only with a white bezel. Basic due diligence. The mistake is entirely on you because you said you wanted a rose gold model and should have known that meant a white bezel, as clearly shown on the box of the silver, gold and rose gold models.

The website page I linked to clearly shows the color combinations when you pick an iPad color.

When you select silver, gold or rose gold, the front is clearly shown with a white bezel.

If you pick the space gray model, it too, is clearly shown with the black bezel.

Since Apple introduced colored back iDevices, the bright colored iDevices all have had white front bezel.

Only space gray and black backed model iDevices come with a black front bezel.

So, some due diligence, on your part, was needed before you initially purchased.

There was an earlier time when Apple DID offer iPads and other iDevices with just a siiver (aluminum) back and front black bezel, but this changed with the introduction of more color choice in the 1st generation iPad Air models.

So, now you know.

Space gray and black backed iDevices have a black bezel.

All bright colored backed iDevices have a whitle bezel.

Personally, for me, I like the white bezel better on iPads as it looks more picture frame like.

I like my 6th gen iPod Touch in space gray back and black front bezel, though.

Correct. In fact iPhone and iPad color options have always and only ever refered to the choice of case color. The bezel has always been whatever bezel goes with each case color. So when you told the store employee which one you wanted, I imagine they quite naturally went by the case color, since bezel color has never been a distinguishing feature when selecting or ordering an iPad, iPhone or iPod Touch.

I can understand you being annoyed by the confusion of your partucular shopping experience. But bezel color has never been an ordering or selection option, never. iOS devices have only ever been distinguished by their case color (presumably simply because Apple offers choices in case color, but has never offered choices in bezel color for any given case color).

Guys, there are two bezel colours white and black - so there is a colour selection For bezels.

Therefore bezel selection is an option, otherwise how could I have swapped the white front for the black front?

My point is that there is a constraint on the colour of the back or case depending on the preferred bezel colour selection, which is not listed on the tech specs page and was not pointed out by the sales person.

If you extrapolate the logic in the answers to this post: 'if rose gold car colour - no wheels' 'you the customer should have known that.'

My purpose in actually mentioning this on the forum was to let others know about this 'hidden' constraint, particularly if you were about to make a purchase on line just before travelling, or if you live a long way from an Apple shop.

And as I said, the colour of the front bezel on the iPad actually matters to me, other people may not care or may prefer white, my iPhone 7 has a white (more like ivory actually) front and is in a case so I don't even see the gold back. Doesn't bother me.

Anyway - I am really enjoying my new tools now they are all set up; and my Apple family members are all playing nicely. Backlit keyboard would be heaven, probably need to use a chemical as other backlit keyboard cases are quite heavy - this one pairs beautifully and is great to type on.

No, there is a constraint on the bezel color based on the case color. I am just saying that in the history of the iPhone, iPad and iPhone, nobody has ever been able to order or request a device based on bezel color. Apple has never made that distinction in any of their product descriptions or order options. It has always been the case that one picks a device based on case color, and you get whatever single bezel color is used with that case color.

You cannot get a space gray case with a white bezel - not an option. Nor can you get a rose gold with a black bezel. Your choice is case color - the bezel is whatever it is for that case color. Case color dictates the bezel color.

Your car analogy is flawed since any case color or bezel color has exactly the same internal hardware, capability and functionality. A more apt analogy might be (?) clothing. You purchase a jacket by the fabric color, not the lining. The lining is whatever is available with that jacket color.

And if ordering online, you don't get to even select the bezel color - that is not an option when ordering. Only the case color is an option when ordering.

I mention the color black, in general, as iPhones come in jet black back case now, with a black front bezel, of course.

Your analogies and reasonings are flawed.

As Michael Black has re-iterated, Apple has never made bezel color choice an option. Ever.

Apple has always paired their bright colored iDevice cases with front white colored bezels.

Darker color back cases (space gray, black, jet black) with black front bezels.

Apple has not offered a choice of front bezel color, at all.

It is what it is.

Apple doesn't offer Rose Gold or Jet Black back case colors in their standard 9.7 iPad, 12.9 iPad Pro or iPod Touch models, either.

IPod Touches, also, come in blue, pink and optinal product red color back cases with white bezels.

No iPads come in blue, pink or red back cases.

So, again, you have to execise some due diligence on what case colors and bezel colors are available to each iDevice model lineups.

This is not a cut and dry commonsense thing.

Apple has paired certain colors to certain mobile device lineups and those colors are paired to either a black or white front bezel.

So, some research by the buyer is needed before purchase.

It's that simple.
