is it safe to delete safari plist files?

Hi

My Safari (on Macbook) seems to run slowly at times - not all the time however. Is there a way to check whether this is my wifi or my Safari.

I have read about deleting safari plists files - Looks like I have on "safari plist" then another "safari plist.XXXXX"

Thanks

MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Mid 2014), iOS 10.1.1

Without any reason there is no point of deleting com.apple.Safari.plist from preferences folder in user library .

If you system is slow sometimes you can run etrecheck , as other members said the same and find out what is running in the system and slowing it .

And you are mentioning two safari plist , there is only one in user library > preferences folder , if major issues occurs in safari then the safari plist is deleted into the trash , restarting the computer , again opening safari app creates a new plist .

To check the machine is connected to your wifi , open system preferences > Network , your network name must be shown .

Move the plist file(s) to the Desktop and relaunch Safari. If it helped you can Trash the old plist, if not move it back. The plist XXXX is bogus.

Also, empty Caches. You can either choose Safari menu > Clear History Or, if you do not want to remove History go to Safari menu > Preferences > Advanced and check the “Show Develop Menu” in Menubar. Then, on that menu > “Empty Caches”.

I suggest you use the program created by Etresoft, a frequent contributor. It will provide a snapshot of your system which we can analyze to possibly determine the cause of your problem. Please use copy and paste as screen shots can be hard to read. On the screen with Options, please open Options and check the bottom 2 boxes before running. Click “Share Report” button in the toolbar, select “Copy to Clipboard” and then paste into a reply. This will show what is running on your computer. No personal information is shown.

You can also go to Finder and select your user/home folder. With that Finder window as the front window, either select Finder/View/Show View options or go command - J. When the View options opens, check ’Show Library Folder’. That should make your user library folder visible in your user/home folder. Select Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari/Cache.db and move it to the trash.

Go to Safari Preferences/Extensions and turn all extensions off. Test. If okay, turn the extensions on one by one until you figure out what extension is causing the problem.
