how to tell version of ipod shuffle

I have an old small ipod shuffle. I can't get it recognized on my laptop. I think I need a new USB cord. How do I see what version of shuffle I have when I can't get it to connect? I think it might be an original version. IT has the 2 inch rectangle dock.

Try use 3.5mm jack to USB this is a standard to shuffle 2nd 3rd and 4th generation

Your iPod is a 2nd gen
