I've just figured out this is not users fault but there was a name for this Apple mistake and I want to know if my Macbook is eligible for a free repair?

No one here can say. Apple decides if you're eligible for a free repair on a case by case basis, so the only way to know is to bring the Mac to an Apple Store “genius” bar for a free diagnosis and possibly a free repair: https://support.apple.com/contact
