Read the article on how to buy AppleCare that's linked to above. It specifically says 60 days (except in Japan where it's 30). I'm not sure why you'd believe rumor sites rather than Apple's official support document.
I just entered the serial number for the iPhone 7 Plus I purchased directly from Apple on 5 May 2017 and it did not give me the option to purchase AppleCare+
