whole pic not showing

I added pictures to iMovie, but they aren't showing the whole picture. How do I get the whole picture to show?

MacBook Pro, OS X El Capitan (10.11.1)

Ah. Sorry - the preferences setting only applies to new clips that are imported. To change the setting for pictures already in the timeline you need to select the picture(s) then click on the crop tool and select Style to "Fit":

You probably have iMovie preferences "Photo Placement" set to "Crop to fill" and you picture aspect ratio is not 16:9. If you change this to "Fit" the whole photo will be visible but there will be black borders.

(After doing this you can if you want use the crop or ken burns tools to select any 16:9 part of your picture to fill the screen rather than the central part.)
