Sync Contact Photos between 'Messages' and iphone 6

I've noticed that more than half of the photos I've assigned to various contacts on my phone aren't showing up in my messages on my mac. Any idea why this might be?

MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2014), OS X Yosemite (10.10.5)

HI,

Syncing of Contacts between two devices needs them to be using the same Service and the same name on that service.

Therefore if using iCloud you need to be using it on both and using the same iCloud valid Apple ID.

AIM pictures that might be "locked" on one device as the picture to use my not actually be the Saved pic.

This can apply if you used iChat before Messages and have not actually made their Buddy Pic the one you want saved to the card.

So...

The pictures were not assigned on the Mac version.

They do appear somewhere as you can see them.

Presumably an iPad or iPhone.

You imply that on the Mac in System Preferences > iCloud the Apple ID is the same as the other device and Contacts is selected to sync.

By the same token you imply the other device also has the same Apple ID in the iCloud settings and Contacts is also set to sync.

If the Pictures are on the devices were you selected the Pictures and not getting to other devices you have not set up the Sync for the Contacts app the way you think you have.

Hi,

It does look like from the pictures that they should be syncing.

Obviously you have not shown your Apple ID which is understandable I am sure it is the same on both devices.

I would have suggested Eric's suggestions next anyway.

However I am sure you will tell us you have already tried signing in and out.

Hi,

Can you confirm Eric's Suggestion that you check the Web view of Contacts in iCloud does show you the pictures ?

iCloud — Sign in

Also do you get any alerts, warnings or error messages when signing out of Contacts in iCloud on either device ?

You should not be choosing "On My ..." to "save" the Contacts list unless it is not showing that it is in fact On line in iCloud.

Try going to iCloud.com using a computer to see if the items are there and whether they are from the device or the computer. That should show whether the device or the computer isn't syncing. If the computer, try going to System Preferences/iCloud and stop syncing. Wait a couple of minutes, then recheck syncing. If the device, go to Settings/Your Name/iCloud and do the above. You can also try signing out of iCloud and then sign in again.
