iPhone alarm is silent randomly

Hi everyone,

Since a few weeks it happens that my alarm clock doesn't come on with sound every time. When I wake up and set it just for checking, it rings again. It happened about 5 times, one time I woke up while it was alerting, but only the screen showed the alarm.

I really depend on this alarm clock but I can not trust it anymore :-( what to do?

I've actually watched the alarm go off but it did not vibrate NOR sound. The thing is, I have set like 5 alarms for the AM. It is weird considering that some alarms actually do sound, but one or two do not.

I've read the suggestions:

Confirmed: Do Not Disturb is NOT on

Confirmed: Not connected to any bluetooth device

Confirmed: Each alarms is set to sound

I have the same problem too. I used to use the Bedtime feature but after the most recent update (iOS 10.3.3), my Bedtime alarm never rings even though my iPad ( mini generation 4) is not on mute and my headphones are not plugged in. So then i switched to the Alarm feature and that worked about 3 days until the same problem occurred. I'm pretty sure i'm not doing anything wrong. I have a feeling that this is some type glitch? Please fix this ASAP Apple, I really need these alarms!!

Hi Gus,

Thank you for your answer. I did check that my phone was on full volume, do not disturb wasn't active. None wasn't activated either... that's why and it hasn't happened only once. It's been around 5 times. One time I missed a flight due to this. None of my 3 alarms came on loud..

Not sure what to do anymore. I need this alarm for my job all the time.

I appreciate your help anyway.

I am having this same issue. I have an alarm set for 6:00am, and one set for 6:30am. The first alarm usually works, but the second one fails randomly. I will wake up, sometimes an hour late, and see the alarm on my screen, showing that it SHOULD be making a sound, but it is silent. It is clearly a glitch in the phone. If it were operator error, the alarm wouldn't work at all. It's very frustrating, and I can no longer rely on my alarm. Apple needs to get with it, and fix this issue. People shouldn't be an hour late for work, because their alarm randomly fails.

You don’t understand what is going on. iPhones can have their volume turned completely up and the ringer working perfectly. I’ve experimented with this and the problem I’ve found is if two alarms go off at the same time. Or if an alarm and a calendar notification appear at the same time. The alarm turns itself off when the calendar notification happens and if two alarms go off at the same time, the alarm becomes silent and does not ring out loud even though it has rung out loud even minutes before. The screen still shows an alarm going off but the phone will stop making any sound.

My alarm was also going silent after a single alert. Just started doing this after I got a replacement and figured out that it was because "Attention Aware Features" was turned on. When I turned the feature off, alarm started working as normal. I think the feature turns alarm to silent as soon as I move it or it recognizes my face ID.

To turn it off go to Settings-->Face ID and Passcode--> Attention Aware Features = off

Hello,

Get help with alarms

Do Not Disturb and the Ring/Silent switch don't affect the alarm sound. If you set your Ring/Silent switch to Silent or turn on Do Not Disturb, the alarm sound still goes off.

If you have an alarm that doesn’t go off, is too quiet, or if your iPhone only vibrates, check the following:

  • Check the ringer volume on your iPhone. Alarms match the volume you set for your ringer. If your alarm volume is too low or too loud, press the volume button up or down to adjust it. You can also go to Settings > Sounds to adjust the volume.
  • If your alarm only vibrates, make sure that your alarm sound isn't set to None. Open the Clock app, tap Alarm, then tap Edit. Tap the alarm, then tap Sound and choose a Sound.
  • If you connect wired headphones, Bluetooth headphones, or speakers to your iPhone, alarm sound will play through the connected device. If you don’t hear the alarm sound while connected to these devices, disconnect from those devices and use the built-in speakers on your iPhone.

My theory behind this problem is that I am the type of person to set 30 different alarms to wake up. So that being said I feel like if you are the same then it could be that if you have two alarms set close together than it can glitch out and not do the audio part of the alarm; only the visual and maybe vibrate.

Also some peoples issue might just be a dirty earphone jack.

What do you think? I tend to analize things too much.

I am having the same issue. I have an alarm for 5:45, 6:00, and 7:00. The 7:00AM alarm works but the other 2 do not ring. I checked the alarm setting and all 3 are set to the same sound. I checked the volume setting and it was fine. Although we already know that. Otherwise, the 7:00AM alarm wouldn’t go off at full volume.

I’ve been using the iPhone alarm setting for over 5 years within problems. Thus needs to be fixed. I start a new job, need to wake up earlier, and can’t rely on iPhones alarm.

Please fix.

Yes same. I use Bedtime and before I go to sleep, I check to make sure the volume is loud enough to wake me. There have been a couple times when the alarm has gone off in the am but sound was so low, I couldn't hear and slept through. Luckily, I wake at the same time but I overslept for 20min. I'll push the volume button up and hit my alarm sound and it's almost at mute. This is starting to really **** me off. Never happened on my iPad mini 2 before, only with this iPad mini 4... and this new screen is much harder to keep clean.

Hey I’ve had the same problem and I believe I have figured out why this happens. If you have multiple alarms set and you snooze the first alarm past the time the second alarm should go off, both alarms get canceled out. I have also missed important meetings and deadlines because of the lack of sound so I feel your pain. Test this out and see if it works for you, I’ve been much better off since I don’t set more than one alarm anymore.
