iPhone alarm is silent randomly

Hi everyone,

Since a few weeks it happens that my alarm clock doesn't come on with sound every time. When I wake up and set it just for checking, it rings again. It happened about 5 times, one time I woke up while it was alerting, but only the screen showed the alarm.

I really depend on this alarm clock but I can not trust it anymore :-( what to do?

My alarm was also going silent after a single alert. Just started doing this after I got a replacement and figured out that it was because "Attention Aware Features" was turned on. When I turned the feature off, alarm started working as normal. I think the feature turns alarm to silent as soon as I move it or it recognizes my face ID.

To turn it off go to Settings-->Face ID and Passcode--> Attention Aware Features = off

Hello,

Get help with alarms

Do Not Disturb and the Ring/Silent switch don't affect the alarm sound. If you set your Ring/Silent switch to Silent or turn on Do Not Disturb, the alarm sound still goes off.

If you have an alarm that doesn’t go off, is too quiet, or if your iPhone only vibrates, check the following:

  • Check the ringer volume on your iPhone. Alarms match the volume you set for your ringer. If your alarm volume is too low or too loud, press the volume button up or down to adjust it. You can also go to Settings > Sounds to adjust the volume.
  • If your alarm only vibrates, make sure that your alarm sound isn't set to None. Open the Clock app, tap Alarm, then tap Edit. Tap the alarm, then tap Sound and choose a Sound.
  • If you connect wired headphones, Bluetooth headphones, or speakers to your iPhone, alarm sound will play through the connected device. If you don’t hear the alarm sound while connected to these devices, disconnect from those devices and use the built-in speakers on your iPhone.

I solved my issue. Some times my alarm would show its going off but no sound and then my other alarms wouldn’t go off.

This caused me many headaches from being late.

My problem was that if you have multiple alarms set but you don’t have snooze activated on them and you stop the first alarm with the volume option than it will not sound any of the other alarms that you have set unless one has the snooze option on.

Make sense? Hope I helped

I have resolved this issue for me at least by following these steps:

  1. Go to Settings/Sounds
  2. Ringer and Alerts was set to zero volume, Change with Buttons disabled
  3. Not sure how this happened but it meant that no sound would come out on any Alerts or Alarms. And setting the volume to maximum would have no affect
  4. Set the volume to the level you want - you can leave Change with Buttons as disabled (which is useful because the volume of Alarms can remain quite loud even if your volume is down low the night before).

Hey I’ve had the same problem and I believe I have figured out why this happens. If you have multiple alarms set and you snooze the first alarm past the time the second alarm should go off, both alarms get canceled out. I have also missed important meetings and deadlines because of the lack of sound so I feel your pain. Test this out and see if it works for you, I’ve been much better off since I don’t set more than one alarm anymore.

HOW TO FIX IT: finally got mine to work after months of struggling with these issues. Go to settings>accessibility>voice control>attention aware and make sure that the attention aware feature is OFF. This has finally made my alarm consistently work, I hope it will help some of you.

Given that the person you replied to posted back in mid 2017, there's a very good chance they didn't have a phone with Attention Awareness. Yes, this is an answer for some people. But ,it's not the only thing that causes this symptom.

And, of course, this solution has been mentioned a number of times already in this very thread.

yes! i am having the same exact problem , i set 2 alarms every morning and one keeps failing on me! it’s ridiculous. tbh there’s a lot of little technical issues i’ve had with my iphones over the past year or so splintered switching back to apple, issues i never had with my galaxy.. 🤔

Make sure that the alarms are not too close together. There appears to be an issue where, if you snooze the first alarm and, while it's snoozed, the second one goes off, the second one won't sound and the first one might not sound again.

I’ve had this same problem. I have class at 9 every morning and have about 6 alarms set for the hour between 7:30 and 8:30.

Are you snoozing any of the alarms? If so, that could be part of the problem. If the snoozed alarm goes off at the same time as the next alarm, they may both be silenced.

Is it possible that the alarms only go off for a certain amount of time before they silence? I’m not sure but I’ve missed way too much stuff to rely on this again

If the alarm is working correctly, it will continue to go off until you turn it off.

Try deleting all of the alarms. Then set up one or, at most two. Test.
