iPhone alarm is silent randomly

I thought I would share a workaround with everyone. It has so far prevented this issue (knock on wood).

When I’m heading to bed and I plug my phone in, I wait to hear the chirp indicating the phone is charging. If I don’t hear an audible chirp, I check to make sure I have unmuted the phone. If it is not muted and still won’t chirp, I then check to make sure the sound isn’t manually set all the way down.

If I check both of these and it STILL won’t chirp, I turn the phone off and then back on and start again. Every time I’ve done this, the phone will chirp when plugged in during step 1, and I’ve not had the alarm fail on me since.

I should mention that I’ve had to restart the phone to get system audio working in this way perhaps 1 out of every 20 times (this is a huge guess - it’s happened, and more than once, but I wasn’t explicitly tracking the incidents). That’s about how often the alarm would fail me. I’ll also say that it hasn’t happened since upgrading to iOS 13, but I still do it every night because I have no reason to trust Apple on this one.

I’m confident that the times I had to restart are the times when the alarm would have failed me - if you’re still having the issue, try this out. Hope it helps!

I just had it happen again as I was watching a video on Facebook. It seems the sound drivers get corrupted and this affects any app or function that uses the main speakers. A reboot is not 100% successful at resetting the issue. We need a root cause. 13.1.3 called out the resolution of an issue with sound. Apparently it wasn't THIS issue.

As Apple isn't reading here for suggestions or bug reports, that really doesn't do much. Use the Feedback page, call Apple Support or make appointment at the Genius bar. All of those will get the problem logged.

I just figured out that each time I set another alarm time it defaults to a quiet level and I have to manually set the ringer level each time. So if I ask Siri to do it the alarm is too quiet. Seems weird. I have no idea how to set a default alarm level. If anyone knows,,,

I confirm alarm ring randomly not goes off. That’s a huge problem that needs to be addressed from Apple. Two times in the last two weeks has happened.

Even if i make it snooze some time alarm sound will not work, I tried to change sound to defult but issue still!

Turn your phone OFF and ON again in future... just worked for me haven had same issues you did.

I take that back.... it worked once loud and clear when I switched the phone to mute.... then back to very low volume... not enough to wake me up. Guess I need to get a Samsung.

You should always get the product that best meets your needs. And no one in this user-to-user forum cares what you get.

No only one alarm in my case

My alarms stopped making sound, too. I’m going to see what my options are on the App Store. It’s a shame Apple hasn’t resolved this issue.
